Our Story
I started Driving and training Driving horses 30 years ago. There was a Driving Club in Powell, Wyoming where we lived at the time. My Quarter Horse mare, Casey, was a good candidate with her calm temperment and basic Dressage background. Since I had use of a friend's cross country cart, I trained her to drive. I bred and raised two siblings out of her and an Oldenburg stallion imported from Germany named Rubenz. My gelding's name is Ransom. His sister's name is Rhodao. They are American Warmbloods.
The style of carriage I drive is a Phaeton Wagonette, designed and built by my father and I in 1999. It seats two adults and/or two adults and two small children with a rear entrance. I also drive a Marathon Carriage and a Knockabout Cart, both used for training and recreation.
I incorporate the French Dressage style of "Riding In Lightness" with my Carriage horses. It also fits well when I use my horses to work cattle, etc. Having a soft hand and mouth is paramount to sensitive communication in all disciplines... It is a lifelong quest and something to always strive for! A solid foundation of Groundwork is of utmost importance as well. The "Relationship" part of riding and driving is what thrills me most. I adore all horses and ponies, etc.
As you can see, this page is not just about driving though... I train saddle horses and rehabilitate problem horses as well. I have a few for sale occasionally so send me a message if interested. As my dear friend used to say, “Ride Well.” :^)
