The Changpas of Ladakh are a semi-nomadic tribe occupying the stark and stunning Changthang plateau, spread across parts of eastern Ladakh and Tibet. The Changpas are pastorals raising yak, sheep and horses, and undertake annual cyclical migration in search of green pastures for their livestock. Unlike other pastoral nomadic tribes, they do not travel from one climate region to the other

Тикси — расположен на вершине холма на берегах Инд, приблизительно в 19 км к востоку от Леха. Часто отмечают его сходство с Дворцом Потала в Лхасе. Это крупнейший монастырь-гомпа в центральном Ладакхе.
Монастырь стоит на высоте 3600 над уровнем моря, в верховьях Инда. Это 12-этажный комплекс построек с чортенами, статуями, тханками, фресками, а также оружием. Храм Майтрея (Будда будущего), построен к визиту нынешнего Далай-ламы в 1970. 15-метровая статуя Майтрея, самая большая в сегодняшнем Ладакхе, занимает два этажа. В комплекс Тикси входит и соседний женский монастырь.
