Saltoluokta, and the view over Langas and Lulep Kierkau.

This is a special place for us. Saltoluokta is situated at the famous trail Kungsleden, and just next to the big national parks of Stora Sjöfallet and Sarek. From here we often start or finish our tours, both in summer and winter time, at the STF Saltoluokta mountain station. We, Christian and Mirja, have also worked here and had our trainee time here a long time ago...

So whenever we come by, it is like coming home in a way. Same landscape, unchanged, only the people and seasons that comes and go. We bet you also have that special place in the mountain, that just feels like home?

1st of September. It might still be summer in southern parts of Sweden, but up here in the mountains autumn has been with us for a while. Cold crisp air, the leaves are changing and on the cold nights the mountainpeaks gets covered in snow.

If you are going to the mountains this time of the year, please bring lots of warm clothes, hats and gloves and a really thick sleepingbag – it is much colder than you think. But also breathtakingly beautiful.

The time of the cloudberries are almost past us now – but did you know that they grow later on in higher altitude?

Further south in the mountainrange they come early, in July, but the further up north you go and higher altitude you can find them later on, in August.

When the time of the cloudberries are past us, autumn begins in the mountains. Did you pick some cloudberries this year?

Some pics from our amazing trekking tour in Sarek!

The weather was with us almost til the end, when we got some rain. We got to experience the wildlife with birds and reindeers, a lot of swims in small rivers, nice food. As often in Sarek, we hiked in rugged terrain and walked through many small and some bigger rivers, with caution.

Thankful for our fantastic guests, a strong team with a lot of laughters!

Looking for a new backpack? Here is some tips for you!

There are so many diffrent models, you just need to find one that 1) Fit your back properly and 2) Have the most important features that you need.

So first, the fit is the most important thing. There are many models and brands that have specific models for men and female back and hips, so make sure to measure your back before buying. Then try it on with loose straps, filled up with some weight. Then tighten all the straps and make sure that it fits well – should be following your bodys countours and not feel like it cuts in somewhere.

When it comes to features, be sure of what you need. A slim alpine pack or a pack with a lot of features and compartments to put stuff? For hiking it could be handy with big compartments on the side of the bag for waterbottles, or other things you want to easily grab. A hipbelt pocket? Roll-top closing or traditional zippers? Try different models and think through your needs.

But what about size? Normally a daypack is between 25-40 litres, depending on acitivity. And for a week out in the mountains, you´ll end up between 50-70 litres, roughly speaking. This aslo depends on if you are going lightweight or not, if you are camping and sleeping in tents or go between cabins.

Good luck choosing your next adventure backpack friend!

Still summer in the mountains and a good time to go find some berries!

Blueberries, Lingonberrys, Cloudberrys... some of them you can find in our mountain areas, some in the forrests, some in the wetlands. Which ones are your favourite to pick?

This weekend we started our very popular trekking in Sarek national park tour.

Mirja and our trainee Erik just headed into Ruothesvagge via Ritsem and Ahkka, to make a tour through the northern parts of Sarek national park and end up at the STF Saltoluokta mountain station.

Together with our guests they will experience all kinds of mountain weather, pink sky in the evenings and feel when the first rays oif the sun starts to warm up the tents in the morning. They will prepare and eat the meals togheter at the camp and get ready to face another day of trekking in rugged mountain terrain, often without any trails, stunning mountain scenery and the wildlife of the national park.

We all wish we were there with them, it will be a week to remember for sure!

Although we are all about the hiking, we also love heading out on the waters.

We are big into canoeing and kayaking at Laponia Adventures. To paddle along a slow, wide river in the forrests around Jokkmokk in a canoe or experience the closeness to the water in a kayak along the shores of Langas.

If you feel like you want to experience nature in another way than by foot, we have canoes and kayaks for rent in Jokkmokk, both for daytours or weeks in the big lakes and rivers in the area. Along with that, you can book support through us and we will take you there, and pick you up of course.

In STF Saltoluokta we have kayaks to rent for a day, if you have time before/after a hike and feel like discover Langas and Lulep Kierkau from the seaside.

Read more and book on our website, and the kayaks in Saltoluokta you can book by the STF mountain station.

We had an amazing week in Sarek on our tour Laponia Explorer.

In this new concept of ours, we head out into Laponia world heritage and discover something new for us, and for our guests.

This year we went into the southwest parts of Sarek nationalpark, and follow parts of the old Präststigen (trail of the priests) that dates back several hundreds of years. This is a remote area, visited by fewer people than in the more central and north parts of Sarek, and Christian and his guests needed to search carefully to find the right paths. We went from Kvikkjokk via Boarek, visited the observatory high up on Bårddetjåhkkå. Then followed Njoatsosvagge up to Alkavare chapel before heading south again to end in Darraluoppal. We also went to the point of unavailability (otillgänglighetspunkten), which is the most remote area from any civilization in Sweden.

It was a week filled with nature experiences, from a lot of birds, all kinds of weather and a whole herd of reindeers swimming over a wide river, crossing one by one.

If you are dreaming about the forrests, and more specifically Muddus national park, learn more about it and our recommendations on our webpage! We always strive to show people more of our beautiful national parks, and our ambition is to have some information about them on our webpage. First out is Muddus!

Muddus national park is one of the most silent places in Sweden. Here it is just you and the forrest, waterfalls and cosy cabins. No running water, no electricity. This is as off the grid as it gets. We truly think it is a magical place to visit.

Our favorite tradition every fall is to go into Muddus national park.

When the air start to get that little bit of chill, the leaves are starting to change and nature seems to want to slow down – that´s when we do it to.

On our tour to Muddus national park we hike between wood-heated huts, take time to wander in the deep, silent forrests and enjoy the magic waterfalls in the area. We cook our meals toghether and sit by the fire on dark autumn nights. This sure is a couple of days of retreat from your everyday life, and you will come home with the feeling of beeing in another place and time.

Join us 4 days, the 29th of August - 1st of September. Read more about it and book on our website.

Let´s be honest – we are not a ”go-light” company when it comes to food...

If you´ve ever been on a tour with us, you know this! A nice meal is so much more than just filling up. We want to give you the best experience possibly, that´s why we put in the effort. We love to cook and serve local treats and quality food, such as smoked fish from the lakes in the mountains, moose from the forrests nearby and reindeer meat. We buy all the ingridients from stores and local people around Jokkmokk and Gällivare, so by going with us you support a whole community.

Any favorite dish of yours?

We still have a few spots left on our two treks in Sarek this summer. Who wants the last spot on “Trekking in Sarek”, the perfect first Sarek tour for you who have done some backcountry camping but maybe nothing more advanced. Or if you are a more experienced backcountry backpacker we can really recommend our new tour “Laponia explorer” where we visit some of the more remote and less visited areas of Sarek National Park.

We are going to make an winter-version of our tour into Muddus national park, the Muddus midwinter skitour!

Muddus is a magical place, anytime of the year. We ski slowly in the woods, between wood-heated cosy huts. A couple of days when it is really cold and nature is bedded in snow. The silence is real, as Muddus national park is one of the quitest areas in Sweden. This is is more silent than any silent-retreat you may have been at! And retreat-ier...

The Laponia Ski Tour is a perfect choice if you want to immense in beautiful mountain scenery, learn more about the Sapmi culture and enjoy the company with likeminded guests. This tour is also suitable for beginners on skis, as we take it quite slowly and shorter days. We move from hut-to-hut, greeted by cabinhosts, cook our meals toghether and take some days to discover the nearby surroundings.

If you are lucky, you can meet the spring in the mountains! Meaning long sunny days and wildlife coming to life after a long long winter.

31/05/2024

When you are about to head out in the mountains, the single most important gear are your boots or shoes, toghether with your socks. How well this ”system” works will give you a nice holiday where you can fully immense in the present or a really painful experience that in worse case will lead to you not beeing able to continue.

So, this is our tricks!
1) Wear well worn shoes or boots. If you buy new ones, make sure to break them in beforehand heading out.
2) On tour, take them off and air your feet regurlarly during the day. Wet, or sweaty, feet get blisters easily.
3) If they are wet or sweaty, change socks and dry the wet ones on your backpack. You can even bring extra soles and dry them too.
4) Make sure you try different kind of socks and combinations toghether with the shoe you are going to walk in. Some people find it blister-preventing to have two socks, one thinner liner and a thicker on top of that.
5) Make sure to wear wool or merinowool socks. Keeps your feet more comfortable.
6) Preventing blisters can be done in two ways – either tape your feet with some kind of sports tejp, leukoplast in Sweden for example, OR use for example white vaselin in the morning.
7) As soon as you feel the slighest irritation, stop and put on some tape.
8) Boots or trail-running shoes – listen to your feet only and make the most comfortable choice.

Any more tips and tricks?

Today we open up our booking for winter! 10% discount if you book before the end of August!

First off, the Sarek Ski Expedition and Across Padjelanta national park.

These two are our most demanding tours, which means as a guest you need to be an experienced skier (not a pro but not a beginner) and ready for whatever challenges we may face.

Sarek Ski Expedition, the 15-23rd of March, will take you into our most remote area, the Sarek national park and we go long days on skis and sleep (very well!) in our tents. This is an epic adventure, where you will meet interesting fellow teammates, experience all kinds of weather and challenge yourself – but also enjoying every single day.

Across Padjelanta national park, the 6-14th of April, will take you along an adventure from hut-to-hut in the vast, stunning landscape of the national park between Norway and Sarek. Long days on skis and some work when we arrive, since the huts are usually closed – but we heat them up. We hardly ever meet any people on this tour – but lots of wildlife.

Any questions, don´t hesitate to email us – we would love to have you as a guest!

Would you like to join us on a real adventure?

We still have spots left on the Laponia Explorer this summer, th 20-28th of July.

This is a new concept of ours, where we head out into Laponia world heritage and discover something new for us, and for you. Could be a less travelled valley in Sarek nationalpark, or canoeing on the Sjaunjariver or something else. On this tour, it is a new experience both for you but also for us as guides. This means we are all more of a team, and we like to bring experienced guests who are longing to see more of the stunning parts of Laponia world heritage site.

This summer we will go on a hike and explore the southwest parts of Sarek national park. We will stay and wander in valleys where very few people are hiking, which makes it extra special. If this sounds interesting, please send us an email or sign an interestform on our webpage.

Alright let us close up winterseason with our last tour we did, the Laponia Ski Tour!

April is often a very good month to be out in the mountains, and this time was not an exception. Nice weather, beautiful views and lucky guests who enjoyed it all. Even got some northern lights! This tour we take it nice and slow, enjoy the daytours in the Laponia world heritage and stay inside in cosy cabins.

We want to say a big THANK YOU to all our guests this winter, we hope you had a good time here with us and we wish to see you again – maybe in summertime already?!

While we are closed, let´s look back at some of our tours we did in April!

This is from the Across Padjelanta tour earlier in April. The weather forecast looked miserable, the least to say, when we (Mirja and Amanda) headed out with the group. Just rain and snowfall and winds... But between the rain and snowfall, the weather surprised us everyday with some sunshine and good views!

We saw a lot of animals; ptarmigans, moose, reindeeers and tracks from lynx and wolverine. More animals than humans wander these lands, as we only met six people along the way (that including three cabinhosts in the cabins...)

In our six days of skiing 91 kilometers we got to experience the beauty and vastness of Swedens biggest national park, Padjelanta.

We are closed for two weeks now.

Now it is time for us to take some well earned rest after a long and fantastic winter season. During the following two weeks we are out of office, so expect a very slow reply on emails...

As a company who deeply values nature and sustainability, this rest is important for us in the long run but also for the nature and animals. During this time of the year the mountains becomes a nursery for all the animals giving birth, and they need some peace and quiet.

Everything in nature follow cycles and we respect that and follow this good example. See you soon!
