Because sometimes fighting is just not an option, today's spell is:

Expeditious Retreat

Level: 1
Casting time: 1 Bonus Action
Range: Self
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
This spell allows you to move at an incredible pace. When you cast this spell, and then as a bonus action on each of your turns until the spell ends, you can take the Dash action.

I am thankful to the Gods of the multiverse for blessing me with amazing Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores. If any of you out there, like me, are alone on Thanksgiving, feel free to teleport to my location. Later tonight I intend to cast "Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion" and we can all dine together on a nine course banquet served by a staff of 100 near-transparent servants.

I just need a small piece of polished marble as a focus and we're off.

Everything a character can do in a D&D game boils down to six core abilities: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, & Charisma. Each of these abilities is assigned a number ranging (usually) from 3-18. A 3 or lower is almost non-functional, and an 18 is mega heroic. Superhuman. They say a 10-11 is average. If you had to honestly assess your REAL LIFE ability scores, what would the numbers be? I'll start with mine:

Str: 10
Dex: 9
Con: 11
Int: 14
Wis: 14
Cha: 15

If this were a game I would re-roll but for real life? Could be WAY worse ;-)

Take heed Dungeon Masters. You can plan and prep all you want, but good players will always surprise and challenge you. I DMed one of the most intensely complex and emotional games ever last evening and maybe 10% of the game revolved around what I planned. Moral? Be ready for ANYTHING.

As a DM, I appreciate 5.0's "advantage/disadvantage" system. Makes it so you don't have to dig through the book to find out whether fighting on a rainy slanted surface is a -1 or a -2. If your character is at a disadvantage, you have disadvantage. Simple, easy, allows for fluid storytelling. The less time spent in a Rulebook during a game the better and that is where 5.0 succeeds dramatically. How do you players feel?
