We are locals: Sitka residents for 13 years and Alaskans for 25 years. Our boat, S/V BOB - a Catalina 50, is modern roomy and comfortable completely equipped for your safety and comfort. We have 3 private guest cabins, each with a large double bed and a private head with shower. Our captain is licensed US Coast Guard Masters with extensive experience in SE Alaska. Charters are full service with al
l cooking done by the crew. We sail with a maximum of six participants each week. Most people bring a group of family or friends to fill the boat, but you can also take one or two cabins. We offer several itineraries, customizing the trip to match your interests. The boat will be provisioned according to your preferences and our specialty is fresh seafood that we catch along the way! We are one of the few companies selected to offer charters in Glacier Bay National Park, and we operate under permit in the Tongass National Forest and in Alaska State Marine Parks. Sailboat BOB holds fishing permits and is a sportfishing business registered with the Alaska Dept. of Fish & Game and NOAA. Additionally, we are 5-Star safety rated by the US Coast Guard.

Truly a wonderful four days of teaching and sailing aboard S/V BOB with the Sitka Maritime Heritage Society. We trained up 13 new (and a few already experienced) sailors - and can't wait to see them out on the water soon. Thanks to everyone! Especially the boats that gave us a wide berth as we were learning the ropes.

Sushi and a haul-out. Spring chores aboard BOB are always fun in the sun. We sailed to Hoonah for a lift to repaint the bottom. Came across a pod of orca and some unusual birds. Yellow-billed loon and a red-tailed hawk. We head back to Sitka in a few days. But it's really nice to be out on the water again.

Trekkies might know this but it turns out First Officer William Riker of the USS Enterprise will be born (fictionally) in Valdez, Alaska in 300 years. Yet another reason to set a course for Alaska and make it so.

The crew recently had the opportunity to perfect this recipe on our charter boat, Sir Galahad II, out of the British Virgin Islands. They say the drink was invented on the island of Jost Van D**e. It is fine fare if you need a winter pick-me-up. The nutmeg really ties the room together.
Painkiller recipe ala S/V BOB
1 cup orange juice
1 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup sweetened cream of coconut
1 cup rum of choice (Pussers Navy Rum recommended)
Blend to dissolve coconut cream
Add to two glasses with ice
Shave whole nutmeg over the top of both
Add slice of fruit
Hand one to a friend, pour yourself the other and get ready for an amazing sunset.

Saddened to share the passing of a really wonderful person and veteran of Sailboat BOB. Leo Paveglio was a teacher, photographer, traveler, devoted husband and father. We got to share two trips with him and loved seeing Alaska through his eyes. He sailed Glacier Bay with us this summer then headed off to Africa for a photographic safari, and just returned from dog-mushing in Finland. A life certainly well-lived. We are so glad to have shared time with him.
