Meaning «a place of rivers», Dinokeng is a region in northern Gauteng rich in natural, cultural and historical heritage sites.
Dinokengs’ four major tourist hubs are the historic town of Cullinan, where the world’s largest rough gem-quality diamond was discovered in 1905; the Roodeplaat dam, a birders’ paradise; the Dinokeng Game Reserve, Gauteng’s only free-roaming Big Five reserve, and Dinokeng Central which is the best kept secret as well as the springboard for visiting the other hubs.
Travellers are invited to come stay and play in Dinokeng, which offers an experience of rolling African bushveld, adventure activities to get your pulse racing, fine dining to satisfy the most particular palate, and a rich and cultural history.
What can undoubtedly be included in Dinokengs’ list of «best things» are the many passionate people and enterprising entrepreneurs who live here. Come meet Dinokeng, or host an event here, and experience the region while contributing to the development of the people who live and work here.

The Roodeplaat Dam was built in 1956 and lies 22km north-east of Pretoria. The Waterways of Dinokeng is traversed by the Elands and the Pienaars rivers, and has two major dams. Roodeplaat, with its Olympic rowing course, and Rust de Winter.
Both dams are surrounded by attractive nature reserves. The dams offer a variety of water sports and activities, from power boating, waterskiing and canoeing, to more restful fishing, bird watching and sundowner cruises!
Gauteng proudly welcomed the first visitors to its malaria-free ‘Big Five’Dinokeng Game Reserve in 2011. Since then, the 21 000ha reserve has grown in stature to provide a free-roaming haven for many other types of game and myriad bird species, including the endangered blue crane and a breeding pair of martial eagles. Here we aim for open ecosystems and pristine wilderness areas, and the development of new buffer models where people and nature grow together in harmony.
The diamond of Dinokeng is the quaint Victorian and Edwardian Village of Cullinan which is famous for the Cullinan Diamond (3106 carat) !
Places of interest include St George’s Anglican Church, McHardy House Museum, and the Cullinan Square frescoes. Cullinan also boasts diamond outlets, a jewellery school, antiques, craft shops, art galleries and studios, theatres, a winery and an open-air museum.
