Setting off for Ukraine. Truck with medical/humanatariam aid. Fire truck will be handed over to the fireservice in Kharkiv full of search and rescue equipment, Subaru with shoebox packages for the front lines will be left there as a casualty evacuation vehicle.

Thanks to the organisers and to everyone who attended the Bedfordshire Steam And Country Fayre. We have been astounded by your generosity. From our initial fundraising, donations towards the fire truck at the rally and from food sales at Ham’s Burgers outside The Three Cranes over the weekend we now have a total of £8,500. This is enough to pay for and get the fire truck to Ukraine. We are still fundraising to cover the cost of getting another vehicle full of aid over, which will bring the drivers of the fire truck home when empty on the way back, and if we can, to cover the cost of taking the 7.5 ton truck over, which is already 3/4 full of aid.

These are just some of the amazing places we have visited in Ukraine - it is a fantastic country full of brilliant people. We have had some great times there and are devastated about what is going on at the moment.

A lot of the content on Crazy Places has come from Ukraine. A couple of years ago I was there doing stupid things, just for fun, and suffered an injury. I wasn’t entitled to it, but my friends there made sure I got hospital treatment, and one friend picked me up from the hospital, took me to his house where I had his young sons bedroom until I was well enough to come home. His wife cooked for me and they looked after me.

I spoke to them just two days before the invasion started and they were convinced the recent threats by Russia would come to nothing. They didn’t believe Russia would ever invade their country or that their western allies would ever let it happen. They are now refugees with no home and none of their possesions.

We live a very safe and privileged life here in the UK.

We change our Facebook photos to include Ukrainian flags, offer sympathy and worry about the cost of fuel rising, still thinking something like this could never happen to us. That’s what my friends thought until a few days ago.

Ukraine needs more from us than our sympathy and flags on Facebook.
