As part of our “Neblina Forest: Stories That Guide, People Who Inspire”, we’re excited to introduce Francisco Muñoz, one of the passionate guides who make every Neblina Forest journey unforgettable.

With 4 years of experience, Francisco is captivated by the beauty and majesty of Patagonia, a region that he describes as one of the most stunning landscapes on Earth.

When it comes to birds, Francisco’s fascination lies with hummingbirds. “Their behavior and physical abilities are incredible,” he says. These tiny yet powerful creatures never fail to amaze him, and he enjoys sharing their wonders with everyone he guides.

For Francisco, Ecuador stands out as a must-visit destination. “The sheer diversity packed into such a small country is extraordinary,” he shares. This biodiversity hotspot offers endless opportunities to marvel at nature, and it’s one of his favorite places to explore with visitors.

With Francisco leading the way, every tour becomes more than just an adventure. His enthusiasm for nature, coupled with his dedication to sharing the beauty of our world, creates an inspiring and enriching experience for all.

Thriving in the harsh, cold Andes up to the snowline, the Ecuadorian Hillstar is as fierce as it is fascinating! These territorial hummingbirds often perch boldly atop shrubs, keeping watch for long periods. When windy or stormy weather hits, they retreat to lower, sheltered spots—or even caves.

Unlike most hummingbirds, they prefer to cling to flowers—using their strong feet—rather than hovering. Their top nectar source is the vibrant Chuquiraga insignis, but they also feed on Malvaceae and Puya, supplementing their diet with insects caught mid-flight or gleaned from cliffs and leaves.

To survive the cold highlands year-round, they enter torpor at night, conserving energy in a truly remarkable way.

A true gem of the Andes, these hummingbirds embody resilience and adaptability!

Can’t make it in March? We have open dates for October and November 2025!

At Neblina Forest, our journeys are not just about birdwatching—they’re about the people who create unforgettable experiences. Today, we’re honored to introduce Juan Carlos Cárdenas, our guide in Peru and operations manager, whose passion for nature and culture inspires every traveler he meets.

With over 25 years of experience guiding in Peru and across South America, Juan Carlos discovered his love for birds and nature years ago while walking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. “The variety of ecosystems, plants, and animals sparked my curiosity and passion. Combined with the rich cultural heritage of Peru’s pre-Hispanic civilizations, like the Incas, this deepened my love for my country, which I now share with my clients.”

Juan Carlos has a special fascination with the Trochilidae family, or hummingbirds. “Though they’re small, these creatures bring so much joy. Their iridescence and unique flight patterns are mesmerizing. In Peruvian culture, they are considered messengers of the gods and our ancestors.” His appreciation for these birds reflects his deep connection to both nature and the traditions of his homeland.

For Juan Carlos, Manu National Park is a must-visit destination in Peru. Its incredible biodiversity of flora and fauna makes it a treasure trove for nature lovers. And, of course, Machu Picchu—a masterpiece of architecture and dedication—stands as a testament to the power and love of the Inca civilization.

With Juan Carlos, a journey in Peru becomes more than an exploration—it’s a celebration of biodiversity, history, and cultural pride. He shares his knowledge and passion with every traveler, creating a profound connection to the natural and cultural wonders of this extraordinary country. 🌳✨

Blue-necked Tanager 🩵
The Blue-necked Tanager (Tangara cyanicollis) typically inhabits humid tropical and subtropical forests, as well as forest edges and secondary growth. It can often be found in the mid-levels to canopy of these forests. This species is native to regions of South America, particularly in countries such as Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil. We are excited to kick off our campaign “Neblina Forest: Stories That Guide, People Who Inspire”!

At Neblina Forest, we believe that our experiences are not just about birdwatching, but about the people who make these journeys unforgettable. To start our series, we are proud to introduce .

With 17 years of experience guiding through nature, Andrea has a special passion for biodiversity, especially birds. "The cloud forest is where I started my journey in nature and birdwatching. To me, it’s my second home." Andrea’s connection with this unique environment is deep, and she eagerly shares her knowledge, allowing visitors to see the forest in a way that only someone with her experience can offer.

In addition to her love for the cloud forest, Andrea is fascinated by the Strigidae family, or owls, which she describes as "complex and subtle." The ability to observe these nocturnal birds and uncover their secrets in their natural habitat is a privilege for Andrea, and she loves passing on this magic to the tourists she guides.

"The cloud forest, in its different altitudinal ranges, has so much to teach us." For Andrea, every visit to this ecosystem is a new lesson, and she is passionate about showing everyone the richness this environment has to offer.

With Andrea, every journey in Neblina Forest goes beyond simple nature observation. She guides and shares stories, cultures, and knowledge that make the experience richer and more human. We believe this is how we turn a simple walk through the forest into a true connection with nature.
