Glass frogs are one of the most intriguing wonders of Ecuadorian tropical forests. With their bright green dorsal coloration and transparent belly, these small amphibians offer a unique spectacle: through their translucent skin, you can observe their red heart beating, along with their digestive tract, liver, and white bones. Their eyes, featuring a silver and yellow iris speckled with black dots, add to their charm.

On our The Andes & Amazon Exotic expedition, you’ll have the chance to see this incredible species up close in primary and secondary forests near streams. At night, when they are most active, you can observe them in their natural behaviors, such as caring for their eggs under the leaves. Come and experience this unique adventure, exploring the secrets of glass frogs in one of Ecuador’s most fascinating landscapes!

🐦‍⬛ The Gorgeted Woodstar is one of the smallest hummingbird species, primarily found in the highlands. It inhabits clearings and edges of humid forests, shaded plantations, and altered areas with trees. A distinctive feature of this species is the small white spot on its sides, visible during flight. Males have a spectacular magenta throat that extends to the neck and chest, making them even more impressive.

During the Photo Tour - Ecuador Andes, you'll have the opportunity to observe this incredible species in its natural habitat. These tiny hummingbirds often hover in the air and are chased by larger species as they attempt to steal nectar from floral territories. When not feeding, they are commonly found perched alone on exposed branches, providing unique moments to admire their beauty and behavior.

On this trip, you’ll photograph a dazzling variety of vibrant tropical birds, including hummingbirds—the true jewels of the Andes—alongside tanagers, toucans, trogons, woodpeckers, and the striking Andean Cock-of-the-Rock. Experience the beauty and diversity of the species that call the Andes home.

During the expedition, you can expect to encounter over 200 bird species, including an impressive array of tanagers, toucans, hummingbirds, and aracaris.

The giant anteater is a large animal known for its unique appearance and peculiar habits. It can reach up to 120 cm in length, with a tail of up to 90 cm, and weigh up to 45 kg, with males generally larger than females. Its gray-brown fur features a distinctive black stripe bordered by white lines running along its body.

With a long snout and elongated skull, it has an impressive tongue that can reach up to 60 cm, perfect for reaching insects in termite mounds, which it opens with the help of its strong claws. Its large, bushy tail, resembling a flag, is one of its most distinctive features.

Solitary by nature, except when a female is with her cub, the giant anteater adapts its activity schedule to the climate and environment. Its keen sense of smell compensates for its poor vision, helping it find food and recognize its vast territory, which can cover up to 25 km².

These animals are also skilled swimmers and enjoy bathing in mud to relieve heat and eliminate parasites. With its distinct appearance and fascinating behavior, the giant anteater is a true gem of Brazilian wildlife.

22/01/2025

The jaguar is the largest feline in the Americas and one of the most formidable predators on the planet. With a powerful bite, stronger than that of tigers and lions in proportion, it dominates the ecosystems it inhabits, controlling populations of various prey, from small rodents to large mammals such as tapirs and caimans. Its hunting skills and role as a strict carnivore make it essential for ecological balance, regulating food chains efficiently and silently.

Although it is predominantly active at dusk and night, the jaguar can be seen moving during the day, especially in less disturbed areas. Its home range varies depending on the environment, prey abundance, and population density of its species, making each encounter with this majestic creature a unique and rare experience. During our expedition, you will have the opportunity to experience the grandeur of this species in its natural habitat, a privilege for nature lovers.

This rare resident of humid foothill and lowland forests on the Pacific slope of the Andes, from Colombia to southwestern Ecuador, is truly a sight to behold.
