Based on recent and forecasted weather conditions and in the interest of visitor safety, the Blue Ridge Parkway is issuing a road advisory for the entire 469-mile route through Monday October 5th. Drivers are encouraged to use extreme caution and be aware of the potential for falling rocks and downed trees.

The Parkway requires driving with extra care due to its narrow road shoulders, steep grades, and numerous curves. Drivers must adhere to posted speed limits and be prepared to stop or turn around.

Visitors are encouraged to check the Parkway’s online Real Time Road Map, at http://www.nps.gov/maps/blri/road-closures/, for current conditions and closures affecting park roads.

Congratulations to Cherokee as USAToday.com featured their 4th of July Powwow as one of the top Native American powwows in the United States. Paul Gowder of PowWows.com was quoted as saying “The dance area is gorgeous, with mountain backdrops. It’s green and lush and a beautiful location – usually nice and cool with a mountain breeze.” The North Carolina Division of Tourism, Film & Sports Development worked with writer Larry Bleiberg on the story.

Every year, dancers, singers and musicians hit the powwow circuit in family-friendly festivals.
