• Layer up! The weather can shift from warm to cool quickly.
• Bring a blanket! Stay cozy and enjoy the ride.
• Wear a hat! Keep your ears warm with your favorite toque.

Dress for the cooler temps, and you’re sure to have an unforgettable tour on the lake!

Fall is a beautiful time to be on the water. But boating during this cold water season also requires extra attention to detail and the ability to be self-sufficient given that there are fewer boaters on the water should you require assistance.

Here are some essential tips for a safer off-season boating experience:

🚤 Dress for water temperature, not the air temperature - this could slow the progress of hypothermia if you end up in the water.
🚤 Check weather forecasts - small open boats can be vulnerable to sudden squalls and fog.
🚤 Ensure your boat, engine and safety equipment are in good working order - carrying tools, spare parts and extra fuel can help fix minor problems that might arise.
🚤 Don't overload your boat; it increases the risk of swamping and capsizing.
🚤 Leave a Float Plan with a trusted person, including your route and return time.
🚤WEAR A LIFE JACKET OR PFD.
