Kia Orana,
I always get asked if I can recommend places to eat, or things to do 💁🏽♀️ Check out my list below. I’ve also added recommendations from friends n family 🌴
Mud Buggy’s
Worth every cent. Costs $200 for a two person buggy and covers both people. Great fun.
Booked via their website.
Captain Tamas Lagoon Cruise
Great cruise across lagoon and then snorkeling. Lunch follows with a show. Well worth the money. They hosts were entertaining and funny.
Booked via their website.
$225 total for 2 adult 1 child
Maunga Tours - Cross Island walk
Bruce the host is great and really knows his stuff. He is able to provide history and information about the forest. Snacks were provided half way and lunch was provided at the end. Great value at $80 per adult. Booked via their website.
Raro Fishing Charters
Starts roughly at 7:30am and finished about 11:30am.
Good way to also see whales.
Book via their page.
2x Adults and 1x Child $500 total.
Love cafe - this was hands down the best coffee on the island (for me)
Palace Burgers
The burgers are delicious and reasonably priced.
Tamarind Restaurant
Great for a ‘fancy’ meal. Abit higher cost but well worth it. The restaurant overlooks the ocean. The food is amazing.
Maori Cafe
Delicious cheap burgers right across the road from the beach. You can grab a couple of burgers and watched the sunset on the beach. It’s perfect.
Trader Jacks
Great view overlooking the ocean. Great pizza
Muri Night Markets
Plenty of food options to choose from. Everything we had was delicious. I love the banana and custard crepes!
Scooters
You can hire from Rarotongan Rentals. Cost was reasonable at $25 per day for new scooters with helmets. I originally booked cheaper ones however on arrival they said they weren’t available and once you’re there you have to take it or leave it.
Licence is easy enough. Firstly sit the theory and then go get your scooter and then sit the driving part which is only weaving through a set of cones twice. Pretty basic.
Bus
There are two buses. One runs clockwise and the other anti clockwise. Mostly once per hour and it’s $5 per trip, $16 for a day pass and $30 for a 10 trip card.
Saturday Markets
These were fine. Lots of food and touristy bits n bobs.
Ma’is in Muri
Is delicious and reasonably priced. The boys love they can watch footy there, and they also have an island group singing to the island drums and ukulele
Villi’s burger joint
In Matavera (2 mins drive) from the house!
Go local turtle tour in Takitumu district….from memory it’s roughly $140pp
Tumutoa tours - Umu feast and string band. The amazing part about this tour is the involvement from all guest. An experience to remember.
OTB bar and restaurant, they have a fire dance on Sunday nights! Must book.
Viana’s bar and restaurant in Avarua! Amazing fish n chips (well everything is yum), seating on the beach with DJ.
Charlie’s cafe in Takitumu great food also.
Blackrock , the restaurant is beautiful not far from the airport. There’s a spot there great for whale watching!
So much more to do! Meitaki
