The desert Pancraium is one of my favorite flowers. It blooms in late September and in October. It looks like the Sea dafodill but is much smaller. The only place it blooms on the INT is by Ein Yorkeam. But there it doesn't bloom each year. Yesterday I went for a short hike to watch this beautiful flower. It is off the INT in Nahal Tzafit. Enjoy the pictures.

There are now 4 water tanks in the Negev desert, all free of charge. At the top of the small crater by a small military base, Raham Eteq night camp (NC) , Shehoret canyon NC (new one) and Yehoram NC. The tanks are maintained by the NPA. The big plan is to have water tanks at all night camps in the desert. There is no date for this plan to be completed.

Dear friends, Most hikers like the red guide and find it useful. Good reviews are nice but unfortunately they do not help us to improve the guide. Seldom we have the opportunity to improve the guide after we've received comments about it from hikers. It is only those hikers who write bad reviews on Amazon and on Facebook, that help us to improve the guide. The bad reviews mostly indicate that those hikers did not read the short introduction in the guide and did not log onto the forum. They usually fail to download the preface to the guide and the grocery store list. Some of them learned about the only reliable trail angels list, when they are in Israel. The app is nice but outdated, so are other lists. All the above indicate that we've missed something. In the current edition, it is mentioned on page 7 of the guide to download the preface. In the next edition (2020) we've dedicated two pages, one in each direction of the hike, for important links (attached). They are mentioned in a large bold font. The INT is different than other long trails, definitely compared to those in Europe, and requires more reading at home. I hope it helps future hikers to do more research at home. See you all on the trail.

Year after year the Queen of the Night (Selenicereus Testudo) blooms for one night only, in my garden. The cactus is large and this year some 30 flowers bloomed in September and the second wave is now. I never stop to be amazed by this wonder flower. Have a nice weekend.

Each year my granddaughters have a birthday trip. This time it was a trip with the 7-year-old. It was a short hike from Ora junction to Ein Kerem. After lunch we visited the churches of Ein Kerem. Here are the highlights of our conversation at the entrance to the Church of the Visitation: I: This is the Church of the Visitation. She: What is a church? Me: Christians pray here. She: What are Christians? Trying to explain with the help of Jesus. She: Who is Jesus? Me: He is the Messiah of the Christians. What is Messiah? and so on..... :) Few pics from our hike...

There are quite a few possible side trips along the INT. One of them is Hirbat Tinshemet (The Owl ruin), south of Shoham industrial zone. During a salvage excavation in 1997, the church of Bacchus was discovered, with magnificent mosaics from the Byzantine period, dated to the 4th century. The mosaics remained in the area and are maintained by the JNF. The deviation from the INT is short and you re-join the trail on an unmarked dirt road. The Saflulim hill (cups hill) is nearby with a very beautiful panorama. A map and a few pictures are attached. IMO, this is a mandatory side trip. Too bad the INT does not pass there. Enjoy

Yesterday I hiked with my granddaughters on Mt. Carmel, from Hirbat Rakit to Isfiya. The hike was fun. The thing I enjoy most is seeing the granddaughters, hike and enjoy themselves together. Going down from Mt. Shokef, I walked a distance behind them, enjoyed myself and took pictures. I enjoyed it so much that I did not notice they've missed a turn to Alon valley. When I noticed that, we were off the INT by almost a kilometer. Someone passed by and asked: "What are you looking for?" I replied: "The INT ..." ☹ He helped us find our way back and said that he is hiking the INT in day hikes. He definitely was an expert. I did not ask him if he's using the red guide…. 😊
