Swinburne University of Technology has announced plans to:
- Shut down the Lilydale campus by the 1st of July 2013
- Move the Faculty of Design from Prahran to Hawthorn with a view to shutting down the Prahran campus
- Cut at least 13 TAFE disciplines
- Move all remaining TAFE courses to Hawthorn, Croydon and Wantirna
This will affect all Swinburne students with:
- Students being forced to trave
l up to an additional 40km each way to other campuses
- On campus residents losing their homes
- Stretching existing capacity constraints at Hawthorn with class sizes, car parking and services availability all affected
- Reduction in the breadth of Swinburne's course offerings
Academic staff and general staff are also affected. There will be at least 240 redundancies for ongoing staff and many other
casual/contract staff which will no longer have positions. Swinburne Student Union is dedicated to Prahran and Lilydale students and as a 100% student-controlled organisation
independent of the University, is free to criticise and campaign against Swinburne. Watch this page for updates on actions and share it with your networks.
