Each year we pick a riding destination featuring scenic roads and historic places to visit. We are a group of volunteers who like to plan motorcycle trips for Harley Owners Group members. In the past we have taken trips along the Mississippi River, as far west as Utah, as far south as Florida, as far east as Maine, and as far north as North Dakota. Our last stop of the day was The Virginia Museum of the Civil War. Displays, art gallery, and the movie, Field of Lost Shoes. This also included the Bushong House. This is the area where 276 cadets from the military academy were called to fight in the Civil War in the Battle of New Market. Ten of them were killed in the war or the result of the war.

You can't learn about Mennonites and not have an authentic meal. Ron and Sandy met with Marjory Shank in December and set up a meal with Smoked chicken thighs(her brother raises the chickens), Virginia Ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, broccoli and cauliflower salad, homemade buttered noodles, homemade oatmeal bread, fresh churned butter(her neighbor makes it), strawberry preserves, sweet pickles, lemonade, iced tea, coffee, water, huckleberry pie and apple pie. I don't think anyone left hungry. Marjory grows many of the things in her own garden and then cans them for future use. Can't beat made from scratch food.
