We are in the process of planning our 2019 season for the juniors in the top end. And, we are looking to continue the DDCC Dukes Carnival that was held last year, and was very well received. In 2019, we are planning to focus on one age group only – being 14 and under or 15 and under (to be confirmed).

If you are interested in taking part in this competition in 2019, please let us know so that we could include you in our communication.

The details know at this stage (and we will continue to update this) are:
- Carnival will run from the 8th July till 12th July - we have an option of including the 7th of July to the schedule if required
- We are looking to invite 3-6 teams – with one or two local teams;
- Carnival will be for 14 years and under (or 15 and under - to be confirmed), with girls receiving the normal age dispensation;
- Each team will play between 6 and 8 games during the carnival – being a mixture of T20 and 40 or 50 over games;
- In order to manage workload on kids, we want at least 15 kids in the squad, and rules will allow 15 players to take part in each game, with 11 batters and 11 bowlers;
- We are looking at $4,500 per team (which is $300 per participant) - which covers grounds, balls, umpires and lunch on the game day

We will investigate and send out information on accommodation options early in the new year.

If you are interested, register your interest to receive updates, and feel free to pass this information on to others. Separately, if there is any interest for any other age groups, or girls cricket please register your interest, we will try and see what we can do - but we will need to coordinate this with other parties.

The DDCC Dukes Carnival for 2018 was sccessfullty run between the 9th and 13th July . The carnival is an invitational carnival organized by the Darwin and District Cricket Competition to allow kids involved in the Darwin junior club competition to play against better opposition as part of their development, and also to make connections with young cricketers from other parts of Australia.
This carnival replaces the mid-year carnival that used to be organized by NT Cricket, but had been missing from the cricketing calendar for the past few years. This year, we had four vising teams taking part in the carnival in 2 divisions – under 14 and over 14. We had
• Cricket Appeal – Ash Doolan’s Cricket Appeal brought a side in the each of the age group from Sydney. Ash Doolan is no stranger to Darwin, having played cricket in the top end for a number of years.
• Murphy’s Wanderers - Brad Murphy brouight a side in the under 14 age group. Brad Murphy played cricket in Darwin a number of years ago, and is highly sought after coach.
• Gippsland Cats - Rob Wood brought a side in the under 14 age group. Rob Wood was regional cricket manager with Cricket Victoria, and is well known for his work with juniors in Victoria.

Our local representative side, the Darwin Sharks, had a side in each of the divisions, The teams were chosen from all of the clubs involved in the junior competition in Darwin. The games were of exceptional standard and was hard fought in both the divisions.

In the over 14 division, Cricket Appeal team defeated the Darwin Sharks in two games – held on the 9th and 13th of July. Our local team acquitted themselves very well – with a number of exceptional performance, including Lachlan Markey scoring 71 in the first game, and Rohan Phillip, Luke Conlan and Hashtik Brimbal scoring half centuries in the second game.

In the under 14 division, the teams were evenly matched – the Cricket Appeal side met Murphy’s Wanderers at Nightcliff in the final – with the Cricket Appeal side emerging victorious to claim the inaugural DDCC Dukes Shield for 2018. Darwin Sharks played the Gipsland Cats for third place, and emerged victorious. There were some outstanding performances for the Darwin Sharks – including Rhys Lavercombe, Tom Menzies and Clancy McCormick scoring half centuries

The shield was presented to the Cricket Appeal side by Jake Doran - current Tasmanian Sheffield shield player.

Huge thank you to Dukes for their support of the carnival - couldn't have done without them.

Planning for the 2019 carnival is already under way. And at this stage we are looking at a single 14 and under carnival to be held between the 8th and 12th of July, with a potentially a second carnival for other age groups on the previous week or the following week.

If you are interested, leave a message on this post and we will be in touch to discuss this further.
