Desde 2016, en la embarcación Flipper aprovechamos cada avistamiento para recoger datos científicos que nos ayudan a conocer un poco más a nuestros cetáceos.
En el mapa observamos que los calderones (rojo) se encuentran en aguas más profundas (alrededor de los 1000m) ya que éstos se alimentan de calamares y peces de profundidad. Por otro lado, los delfines mulares (verde) se suelen ver más cercanos a costa ya que su dieta se basa en peces, crustáceos etc. que no se encuentran a tanta profundidad.

Since 2016, in the Flipper boat we take advantage of each sighting to collect scientific data that helps us to know a little more about our cetaceans.
On the map we see that pilot whales (red) are found in deeper waters (around 1000m) since they feed on squid and deep-sea fish. On the other hand, bottlenose dolphins (green) are usually seen closer to the coast since their diet is based on fish, crustaceans, etc. that are not found so deep.

I'm sure you all know how the Spanish love fiestas, religious processions and family time! Well, Semana Santa/Holy Week, or Easter as we know it, is one of the main ones.
However, for Semana Santa this year, some measures have been put in place to help control transfer of Covid between the Canary Islands. So if moving between islands during the dates of 26 March to 09 April, a negative PCR or Antigen test is required.
This does of course also apply to travellers coming from outside of the Canaries, for example, flying to Tenerife and then catching the ferry or inter-island flight to La Palma.
However those with a just cause such as work, medical reasons, etc., will be exempt.
Additionally, curfew is at 23.00hrs - 06.00hrs on the three islands of La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera whilst curfew on the rest of the islands is set at 22.00hrs.

If you have ever walked any part of the GR130 Camino Real on La Palma, you'll know how tough it is.
But these runners go right across the north from Barlovento to Santo Domingo de Garafia, 29km of unrelenting ravines - and fast! Technical running at its best!!
