Amy's Gentle Giants- I began Amy's Gentle Giants after being faced with a horrible tragedy no one should ever be faced with. I found my best friend of several years unexpectedly one morning. Little did I know that my life would be forever changed. A word that saddened me before, now not only saddens me but I have a whole new understanding of the word and more sensitive to the subject. Since being

diagnosed with PTSD, I have fought my ways through the many stages of grief and struggled day to day with unanswered questions; questions I will never know the answer to. I turned to God and my horses for therapy. The feeling of being need by my horses filled part of the hole in my heart. I had always been a believer that horses are therapeutic but never really understood just how therapeutic they really could be. I prayed to God while clinging to the manes of my horses and my tears soaking there necks. I feared what the future held for me and being around such large honest animals I slowly became to overcome my fears. I feel that God has blessed me to be fortunate enough to have such animals that I want to share the experience with others. No my horses are not of normal size. Renegade- 10yr old saddlebred gelding, 16 hands tall. Tally Ho Duke- 13 yr old Reg. English Shire Draft horse gelding, 16-3/4 hands tall. Legacy's One In A Billion- 5yr old Reg. dapple grey Percheron gelding, 19.1 hands tall and still growing. Horses are used for therapy in many ways. I am looking to get my certification to become an equine therapist so that I may help others that have struggled w such tragedies, and share an amazing experience. I am currently giving riding lessons, your location or mine, training, riding, showing, exercise regimens of your horse. My Gentle Giants are available (just the horses or horse and cart) for events, birthdays, meet and greets. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me Amy Fields (865) 755-8534. As a su***de survivor, I am living proof these giants are truly therapeutic. The greatest healing therapy is experiencing friendship, trust and love of a gentle giant.

I am in desperate need of sincere prayers- Legacy's One In A BILLion, AKA Bill, is not doing well.
As many know he was diagnosed w laryngeal paralysis so I had a ventricordectomy (lasering of the left vocal cords) done in Nov of last year. He has done great, had his check up scope looked great. The past couple of weeks, once it got warm- I noticed him breathing funny- kind of like he had allergies. I got worried and Wednesday night I took him to UT large animal vet hospital. They scoped him to find that his left arytenoid cartilage is swollen and inflamed (this is the upper section that is normally "tied back" in attempt to allow more air to flow in horses that have laryngeal paralysis).
He stayed over so the respiratory surgery team could look at him yesterday. I went up on my lunch and was fortunate to be able to be there for another scope and ultrasound. I picked him up last night w 2 weeks of antibiotics and anti- inflammatory meds to treat what they think is arytenoid Chondritis. Another thinks it is granulated tissue from the lasering of the vocal cords.
Basically it comes down to this:
*We are hoping the meds take the swelling down and treat whatever is causing the inflammation, and it goes away!
*If the medication doesn't help surgery is an option- however this surgery CANNOT be down standing up therefore Bill would have to go under anesthesia, which w drafts Bills size it extremely risking- he possibly would be able to come out of anesthesia.
*If he did make it through surgery- they said a 60%-70% chance he would have a chronic cough and runs an extremely high risk of food aspiration, which is deadly.

He goes back to the vet Monday for re-scope to see if the meds are working.
I am so broken hearted right now. I have cried my eyes out till they are swollen shut.

Has anyone dealt w arytenoid Chondritis? It's kind of mysterious according to vets they can just link it to horses w laryngeal paralysis.
