In my 2 1/2 years with TOH, the biggest raised-eyebrow we get is that we're for-profit. If we're helping women out of poverty, why are we making money?

Essentially, we are not a charity because charity, while needed in emergencies, does not allow dignity over the long-term. I firmly believe poverty can only be solved with sustainable business. As a for-profit, TOH allows women around the world to provide for our families, one of those women being yours-truly.

So why buy from us?

The comparison I make is of purchasing your meat/produce from a local, respected farmer. You know her livestock is well-fed and well-cared for and her produce doesn't contain harmful pesticides.

Trades of Hope is like buying from that farmer as opposed to going to the grocery store.

You could go to any department store and purchase comparable jewelry, handbags and scarves but, by making your purchase with us, you are getting products from artisan groups that care about the whole individual, the community and the environment.
