Maasai Mara, also known as The Mara, is a vast national game reserve located in Narok, Kenya, adjacent to the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The reserve is named in tribute to the Maasai people, who were the original inhabitants of the region and migrated there from the Nile Basin. When viewed from a distance, the landscape appears “spotted”, which is reflected in the Maasai language where “Mara” means “spotted”. This description arises from the presence of short, bushy trees that dot the terrain.
