Wilbur 's cautious stare ...or maybe it's a glare! Regardless - I'm making progress with the help of . When he does come to me he turns on his purring engine so I know he's calm...which is great! Yay for progress!!!

He'll be up for adoption in Denver around thanksgiving most likely!

My new foster kitten, Wilbur, doesn't have a lot of love for me...yet.

I sometimes find that cruising as a solo traveler can be challenging - it depends on the makeup of the passengers: charter groups, big family groups, and couples traveling in groups make it hard sometimes to interact. However, for this expedition cruise, I found more solo travelers to bond with than ever, which made it even more fun for me! I had a great crew that I hung out with from the US and Holland and together we had so many laughs...and dessert. In fact - we called ourselves the Antarctica Dessert Crew. I was assigned a roommate, and once again, I was so lucky to get someone who I got along with so well!

I'm not sure why there were so many solo travelers on this expedition, but I have some ideas. One is that it was the first trip of the season and it often isn't filled to capacity - so companies normally discount it at the last minute and that makes it appealing to solo travelers who frequently are on a tighter budget. Every one of the people in my crew booked the trip within the last 5 weeks...so that says a lot.

I will be writing much more about how you can go to Antarctica on a budget in my blog...but going early or late in the season is one way. And personally I think going early is the best - you have the best animals, and environment/snow.
