"This event is co-hosted by ZAMI NOBLA: The National Organization of Black Le****ns on Aging.

When Moya Bailey first coined the term misogynoir, she defined it as the ways anti-Black and misogynistic representation shape broader ideas about Black women, particularly in visual culture and digital spaces. She had no idea that the term would go viral, touching a cultural nerve and quickly entering into the lexicon. Misogynoir now has its own Wikipedia page and hashtag, and has been featured on Comedy Central's The Daily Show and CNN's Cuomo Prime Time. In Misogynoir Transformed, Bailey delves into her groundbreaking concept, highlighting Black women's digital resistance to anti-Black misogyny on YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, and other platforms."

Charis welcomes Moya Bailey in conversation with Catherine Knight Steele for a celebration of Misogynoir Transformed: Black Women's Digital Resistance. This event is co-hosted by ZAMI NOBLA.

Join the Womxn's Identity Resource Center and the Blue Resource Center for a conversation among organizers from the undocumented community in Washington. We will discuss how building a liberatory movement has changed over the transition of presidential administrations, and how the different notions of feminismconverge in organizing and in the overall undocumented movement. This panel will feature a wide range of organizers within the undocumented movement such as Gloria Guizar, Victoria Matey and Maria Dimas. These panelists hold knowledge navigating spaces in academia settings, with farmworkers, etc., and this panel seeks to build a dialogue around the relationships between immigration politics in different organizing spaces, along with a feminist framework.

The event will be on Tuesday, May 25th, from 6pm-7:30 pm.

You will be emailed the Zoom link for the event after registering at the following link:

The WIRC would love to wish everyone a happy International Women's Day! Today (and every day) we applaud and admire all women who put care in their communities, whether that be here at Western, in the Bellingham area, and across the world!
