Tierraventura is a small travel agency specialized in Ecotourism and traditional indigenous medicine. We bring you to incredible places in small groups.

tierraventura is a small ecotourism company that has been hiking, touring, trekking, swimming and wandering around in Oaxaca since 1999. The state of Oaxaca has deep pre-Hispanic roots and a wide variety of amazing landscapes in different ecosystems. Yet there are many places here that tourists rarely visit. We specialize in trips to these places. We offer day trips and tours of up to three weeks.

Our intention is to show you the “real” Mexico, connecting culture with nature. Among the tours we offer are hikes from village-to-village high in the mountains, trips to see crocodiles and sea turtles at the beach and visits to healers who use ancient traditional healing methods. We are working to develop a sustainable tourism. One that brings economic resources to small communities and gives you the opportunity to discover Mexico in a different way, off the beaten trail.

Oaxaca, Pluma Hidalgo, in the land of coffee and honey.
The village is still one of the biggest coffee producers in the state of Oaxaca.
Already when you drive in you can smell the fresh roasted coffee. We spend our second night here on our road trip over the ancient road to the coast.

Spending one night in the mountains of the southern sierra and one night in the beautiful coffee country of Pluma Hidalgo. I guess we can call this tour the sunset tour… most spectacular sunsets and sunrises over the countless mountain ranges going down to the coast of Oaxaca.

Emerged in the beauty of nature and stillness.
We started in the high cloud forest of Ixtepeji, spend the night in Latuvi and continued on the old trading path from Latuvi to Lachatao.
Wonderful mountain tour off the beaten path.

So much magic during these clear days in the mountains.
Lachi in Zapotec means heart, Tao is the balance.
The place where your heart finds balance, there is no better description to this place in the mountains of the Sierra Norte. Lachatao, a Zapotec village with so much history & beauty.

Oaxaca, coffee country, Finca el Mamey, San Miguel del Puerto.
Clients always do ask me, what is your favorite destination.
And to be honest it’s a difficult question for me because all our tours are very precious and special to me.
But one place makes my heart sing and that’s the coffee plantation El Mamey.
A place in the middle of the jungle… untouched by mass tourism.
The farm house of the Mattern family.
The grandfather came from Germany 1928, he started growing coffee in the jungle.
He builded the house, made the furniture, brought German recipes who are now the base for the most delicious food.
So I found even some of my German roots here, my spiritual sister Elisabeth, a family of spirit.
It’s paradise 🦋.

Oaxaca, the ancient crafts.
There are not so many places in the world where the crafts of the ancestors found their way into modern life.
So many talented hands, so much ancient knowledge in the art of weaving, creating, preserving….
On our way to Ocotlán we visit the black pottery makers, the creators of the alebrijes ( carved wooden animals), the weavers of Santo Thomas Jalieza.

Day two and three, hiking from Cuajimoloyas to Latuvi and than on the old trading route to Lachatao.
The mountains are beautiful after the rain, full of wild flowers, the rivers are full of water…. It is easy to forget the rest of the world here…

Our first hiking day in the Sierra Norte on 3000m. Walking from Llano Grande to Cuajimoloyas with our beautiful guides Humberto and Enedina.
La Cueva de la iglesia is on the territory of San Miguel del Valle.
To have rain in November is unusual but such a blessing. We still found mushrooms on the trail, lots of wild flowers and streams of clear water.
After the craziness of Dia de Mu***os this feels like true paradise…
