Madeira Carnival Festivities – February 22nd to 1st March 2017 (Main Parade 25th and Fun Parade 28th)
One of the biggest street parties in Europe, Madeira’s Carnival evokes the riotous spirit of Rio! This is what a recent guest said about the apartment after their stay:
We arrived in the dark, which contributed to the magic. The hills were lit up and we instantly knew the view would be beautiful in the morning! The apartment was perfectly clean and had everything we needed for our stay. A nice bottle of wine was waiting for us, which we needed after driving the hills with a standard car from the airport. We were able to explore the whole island from this location driving both around the eastern point and across to Saint Vincent. Madeira is simply enchanting and a perfect place to holiday for the outdoorsy! We did have to use a heater on occasion to ward off the chill and humidity, as temperature in April was a little fresh. We walked the levadas, tried the canyoning, and hiked between Pico Arieiro to Pico Ruivo (an absolute must for those that want to test their endurance and face their fears of heights). Everything was accessible from this location. Try the restaurant at the hotel which is adjacent to the beach in Calheta, we dined there twice and were pleased both times. Don't forget to visit the Sugar Mill in Calheta and buy locally made Rum or Molasses. Lots to see and do, we will have to be back! Olga and Bob, BC, Canada
