I took Aziza, Cari and Itchy to check out Fuerte San Lazaro. This is one of The Northern Walls and Forts of Colonial Santo Domingo / Las Murallas y Los Fuertes del Norte de Colonial Santo Domingo.

Fuerte San Lazaro was constructed at the end of the 17th century using a pentagon shape. It is the only fort that has a strong double ramp leading up to the fort. This is very unique and is the only stronghold that has this type of incline.

Watching the Dominican Air Force / Fuerza Aérea de República Dominicana from Av. España during the Military Parade. I watch from afar. Too many humans for my liking. But as the dogs and I were watching it started sprinkling. A beautiful rainbow appeared as the planes flew by. I so wish the pictures showed the beautiful colors I saw. (A few other pictures thrown in)

Happy Independence day! February 27, 1844, the 181st Year Anniversary.

The new flags at the Faro a Colón are proudly flying. The cannons in Parque Colón are waiting to give salute to the President when he arrives. The Secret Service and Military are everywhere in the Colonial Zone making sure all is safe for the Presidents arrival. The Dominican Dog Blog dogs, Aziza, Cari and Itchy are helping.

This one was dead in my apartment. Things nightmares are made of.

Cienpies / Centipedes - Nasty, ugly, venomous creatures. They are predatory arthropods that like moisture and dark places. They are not generally fatal to humans but can be very painful.

Their bite was described to me as by someone who knows first hand - "feels like like the hardest pinch with pliers, plus a bit of a citrus itch and then a pounding, pulsating sensation that goes on for hours, to then ease into a tooth pain like feel until the next day...yeah, that would be the feeling...long story short...don't let it sting you!"

The big Santo Domingo Carnival Parade will be on Sunday, 2 March 2025 along the Malecon. The parade will be held from the Obelisco Hembra to the Obelisco Macho and starts at 3pm. There will be around 80 troupes and the participants will compete for RD$2 million in cash prizes.

The music groups Bulin 47, Jey One, Jandy Ventura, Luis Miguel del Amargue and Stefany Constanza will provide live entertainment at Parque Eugenio Maria de Hostos.

Looky-Looky. The part of the Alcazar Colón facing Rio Ozama has had the veil lifted! The stones are clean and shiny. The big tarp covering the Columbus Palace seems to have been there forever as they work on renovating the Palace. The side facing Plaza España is still covered as the work continues.
