The mountain is an extinct volcano geologically assumed to be formed three to four million years ago. The undulating Mountain stretches in four sides nearly to an equal extension outlining the same posture as it’s seen from all directions.
Located at about 44 km towards southeast of the capital, Finfinne / Addis Ababa, Mount Erer (traditionally known as Yerer)

One of the , Addis Ababa /Finfinne,/ also known as , Suba Sebeta Forest (widely known by the name of Menagesha_State_Forest) is located in Sebeta Hawas and Welmera Districts in the Special Zone Surrounding Finfinne of Oromia National Regional State. It is an isolated remnant afro-montane forest block found on the southwest facing slopes of Mount Wechecha.
The upper part of the forest, Mount Wechecha, including the highest peak surrounding Addis Ababa, Dhamocha (3385 m a.s.l), is a massive extinct volcano with top filled with fertile soil and intensively farmed.


45 km out of Addis with a turning point at Sebeta town towards north along 14 km;
