Protecting parrotfish, and their equally important sea urchin neighbors, can help restore dying coral reefs and keep healthy ones growing. There are nearly a hundred species of parrotfish i...

Calling St. John
There’s one thing that bonds all residents on St. John – the local phone book. Small, yet mighty, it’s the most used item on the desk of anyone who lives here.

19/12/2016

Please share with anyone visiting the island for the holidays. At this time there are just two car barges going back and forth between St. John Island and St. Thomas Island. Nobody will be left behind as they are running hours later than normal (sometimes up until midnight). Just be prepared for up to a 2 hour wait.

Invasion of the Crab
http://stjohnisland.com/good-morning-crab-goodbye/

Being one with nature stops short at living with land crabs Land crabs just might be the most hideous things on earth. Beyond spiders and other crawly critters, an adult land crab shuffling along the road will look up more than 5 feet at a looming biped and truly believe his raised claw defense will...

St. John may be small, but it puffs up during the month of June and explodes on July 4th with the annual Carnival festival. Each of the Caribbean islands has their own form of Carnival celebration at different times of the year, and St. John’s happens to coincide with America’s Independence Day.

Wagapalooza is tomorrow on St. John Island!

This fundraiser is the biggest charitable event for the St. John Animal Care Center ( http://stjohnanimalcarecenter.com/ ), the only animal shelter on St. John Island – the only no-kill shelter in the Caribbean. With little to no government funding, the ACC is run by a lean group of paid staff and a generous helping of volunteers.

The event is Saturday May 9th from 5pm to 9pm in Cruz Bay

Be sure to support them and have a great time!

What a blast we had cheering everyone on to the finish. Ursula and Violet our featured dogs enjoyed the race. Congratulations ACC for winning the Best Water Station Award. Thank you to all our volunteers.

Blues Festival this Saturday
http://stjohnisland.com/st-john-blues-blowout/

In the past, St. John had an annual blues festival organized by a wealthy music-loving resident. When said benefactor left island a few years ago, it looked like he was taking the island festival with him. But not so fast! Enter St. John locals Ronnie Klingsberg (of Ronnie’s Pizza fame) and Ian Samu…

http://stjohnisland.com/another-maho/

Technically still part of the larger Maho Bay sits a hidden gem of a beach, just north of the beach labeled on maps as Maho Bay. Out of the way near the Annaberg ruins, Frances Bay has much to offer. While it doesn’t offer the convenient food vending and showers, the beach itself is wide and provide…
