The ARTE CUBANO: An afternoon of Cuban Art & Music event will feature an exciting art auction of rare original, numbered and signed works from private collections by Cuban print maker, Antonio Canet Hernandez (known as Canet). Works by other artists, Cuban movie posters, books and more will also be available for purchase. Live music by Calle Ocho, a Cuban Charanga and Salsa Band and light refreshments will add to the flavor of this not to be missed celebration of Cuban culture.
Canet's images portray subjects from the historical colonial era, the Cuban Revolution, modern Havana as well as abstracts. Most of his works are linoleum block prints in black ink, but some are multi color with vibrant red and yellow ink. Canet has exhibited around the world and his works hang in the regional museum of Regla. His graphic books include the ant-slavery novel Cecilia Valdes,and Serie Moncada, Vistos por Canet which is a graphic history of the Cuban Revolution.
The Arte Cubano event is a fundraiser, the suggested donation of $10-$20 and proceeds of sales will help fund Richmond youth travel to Cuba as part of a sister city delegation in December 2024. The Richmond Regla Friendship Committee is a project of the City of Richmond, established in 1999 to foster people to people exchanges and collaborations in the fields of culture, medicine, education and municipal resources.
