Indian Army heritage in Surrey
16th July marks the 105th anniversary of the first burial of an Indian Army Muslim soldier who died from wounds inflicted whilst fighting on the Western Front.
The Indian Army burial ground was renovated in 2015 and a commemoration has been held on the site each year since. This year, we share a virtual tribute from 11th Infantry Brigade.
2018 was a busy year, not only did we take several school group tours to the Ypres salient but I was also involved in guiding for the ACF Armistice 100 Somme battlefield tour. (a week long exercise which saw over 3,000 cadets visit the battlefields). We also provided historical research to an Armed Forces Covenant funded project to tell the story of 11 men from Ashington, West Sussex who lost their lives in WW1.
