The chilled, windy air of the Atlantic Ocean surrounded the ship past midnight on July 14, 1896. Artist’s Retreat on Flat Bay
Our Coastal Home on the Atlantic
We fell in love with this cottage-on-the-bay from the second we set foot inside. In fact, we actually signed a purchase agreement before we even entered the town limits. We are not impulsive people, so this was way out of character for our us. However, it just felt right...and it was.
When you’re at the Artist’s Retreat, the quiet sounds of nature surround you. Yet, you’re close to stores and amenities. It’s the perfect balance of solitude and convenience.
Did we get lucky or was it meant to be? We think the latter.
Homeschooling Family Adventure
Heidi is a former first-grade teacher who is home schooling both of our girls.
We really wanted an old-school Maine retreat where we could explore the woods and rugged coastline of Down East Maine. However, we weren’t looking for a 100+ year old fixer-upper.
Our home is in a traditional Maine cottage-style but was built in 2000. Thus. the infrastructure (insulation, electronics, foundation, wifi, etc.) is contemporary. This is the perfect home base for our family.
Artist’s Retreat
The former owner of our home is an artist who enjoyed painting the Downeast scenery. Ruth still lives close by and returns to the area regularly. Just try giving up the Maine-lifestyle. It’s impossible, I believe!
Remodeling for 2020
We are currently remodeling our home. We look forward to taking re-opening on AirBnb in Spring of 2020. Can’t wait!
