One of the best things we did as travellers was to sign up to Harvest Hosts. Such a wonderful organization, and such adventure! We’ve stayed at two great ones so far on this trip but our 3rd tonight is the best. A winery in Washington State where we park in the vineyards themselves! Great fun (and great quiet!)

Day 2 of the rescue mission had us driving from Flagstaff AZ to Kanab UT. We’re so happy to be back in the RV even if this is a short trip home. Although we’re being extra cautious avoiding stores & public places because of Covid concerns we did stop at a roadside jewelry stand in Navajo country. Everyone was wearing masks and I was delighted to purchase a few pieces. We stopped at a second stop as well until the rains threatened to close the place down.

We arrived at the Phoenix storage facility Sept 21st. After 6 months sitting in triple digit heat all we had to deal with was a dead battery and a ton of dust. Not bad, we were worried it would be worse. Heading down the highway felt wonderful - we’ve been away from this too long. 1st night at a KOA in Flagstaff AZ, and yes, “it’s a great day at the KOA

In 2014 we purchased our Pleasureway RV and headed south. Our RV has stayed traveling in The States while we flew back & forth to it. To date we’ve visited over 40 States but that all stopped when we ended up having to store in Phoenix and fly home due to COVID. Unsure of how much longer the border will be closed, we took advantage of a 3 week holiday period to fly down and “rescue” our baby. One week of driving to Canada, two weeks quarantine.

So beautiful in Minnesota and North Dakota, but a snow storm is causing us to divert south for a few days. Hard to give up some of the places in ND I really wanted to see, but it’s safer this way and we will continue into the Bad Lands after the storm finishes this weekend

Touring the flooded areas in Hannibal MO. I think they got off fairly easy as the flood gates held. Unfortunately they lost a beautiful water front park, the baseball park and a sports field.

When we vistied Starved Rock,IL in January we were able to see the largest waterfall in Wildcat Canyon partially frozen. 2 1/2 months later it’s so solidly frozen people can scale it!
These photos from January & yesterday shows how a waterfall can freeze over.

For our first night we returned to Starved Rock State Park. So cold overnIgth that the water bucket in the stairwell developed a coating of ice. We however were cozy warm with the furnice humming and a bed of quilts.

Last morning on the road, Glen’s making me RV tea because he knows I’m always in a bad mood on the last day. It’s really hard to leave our beautiful van. This morning will be filled with packing, eating as much left over food as possible and scrubbing out the fridge. This last day will be even harder because we may not get back to it for 5 months! Don’t know if we can last that long without an RV fix!!

Got our exeresize yesterday at the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes near Empire Mi. A define Must See. We managed to climb 6 dunes, which felt like an accomplishment. Don’t think I’ll ever get the sand out of my shoes.

Summer fun in Lake Erie. My first real chance to experience a Great Lake and we’re having a ball! Lucked out in getting the last spot in East Harbour State Park. They told us it was non-electric, but didn’t mention we’d be in with all the tenters!

Who said anything about a sunny vacation? We should have realized life might get challenging when our Cincinnati hotel was struck by lightning at 5:00am and lost power. Cold shower, no breakfast. But nothing can dampen our spirits once we walk inside our RV. Many thanks to the wonderful women at Whiskey City Sweet Retreat, Lawrenceburg, IN who sheltered us from the storm, gave us free cookies and offered the safety of their basement if need be. They also taught us the difference between a tornado warning and a tornado watch, something which may come in very handy!

The Road to the Kentucky Derby!
Less than a week to go & we’ve arrived in Kentucky. Spent the first night in a Cracker Barrel parkinglot outside of the darling little town of Covington KY. Tomorrow we move on to Lexington.

Its always emotional putting the RV back in storage once the trip is over. However it's been quite a whirlwind trip! In a 10 day period we have slept in Massachusetts, Connecticut, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Kentucky & Ohio, with drive throughs in Virginia & New York State. 4 KOA's, A State park, Walmart & Cracker Barrel parking lots. Now the RV gets a well deserved rest until our next adventure in May.
