BTIA Corozal Chapter Mourns the Loss of Maria Gutierrez

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Maria Gutierrez, or as we lovingly called her, Ms Mar, who served as the Secretary of the BTIA Corozal Chapter with dedication and passion. Mar was a vital part of our team, bringing warmth, professionalism, and a deep commitment to the growth and development of our community.

Her contributions exceeded her role—she was a guiding presence, a kind spirit, and a true advocate for Corozal’s tourism and business sectors. Her unwavering support, hard work, and kindness touched the lives of so many, and her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.

As we grieve this loss, we also extend our deepest condolences to her children, family, and loved ones. May you find strength in the love and impact she left behind.

Mar’s legacy will live on in the work she dedicated herself to and in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing her. May she rest in peace.

BTIA concludes successful bi-national tourism exchange with Guatemala

The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) partnered with the Guatemalan Tourism Chamber in Peten for a tourism private sector exchange in Peten, Guatemala from September 11 to 13, 2024. The focus of the exchange was geared toward fostering private sector alliances with key tourism operators in Guatemala aimed at developing multi-destination packages within the region.

The event gave participants the opportunity of one-on-one networking with both tour operators and hotels. The Belize delegation also embarked on site inspections at various hotels and destination tours that allowed them to experience the tourism product in Peten. This event marks the first phase of the regional integration for BTIA with a second phase to be held in Belize in November 2024.

In addition the BTIA Executive Director Linette Canto and BTIA Board Representative Efren Perez also participated in a strategic institutional meeting along with the Regional Integration Unit from the Ministry of Tourism & Diaspora Relations, the Guatemala Chamber of Tourism and INGUAT to discuss challenges and opportunities for cross-border tourism between Belize and Guatemala. Various issues were highlighted which will be followed up by both BTIA and the Regional Integration Unit and a follow up meeting on advances will be held at the second phase of the exchange in November.

Participating Belize tourism operators included; Blue Marlin Resort, Blu Zen Resort, Up Close Belize, Cahal Pech Village Resort, Splash DMC, Itz’ana Resort, BoneFish Hotel and Jaguar Creek Lodge.

BTIA continues efforts of regional advocacy to ensure that members improve market reach by establishing key regional alliances.
