AN OCEAN VOYAGE
A 15000 nautical mile voyage around the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea; that is the simple goal of what, in truth, is a simple endeavor: to test ourselves and to learn from the train-stopping strength of life experience. Over the course of the one-year expedition we will expose ourselves to an extent that none of us have ever dreamed of before. Compiled with the effect of soci
al isolation, we hope to explore the periphery of our planet, of each other and of our very own nature. BEGINNINGS
Realities are born from seeds of the imagination. Often, despite favorable winds, it is a human lack of conviction that keeps us from enjoying the would-be fruits of our efforts. Our idea began to develop as early as 2009 and after preliminary talks to ascertain the feasibility of the project produced positive results the Blueshift crew was quickly established and the planning began! BLUESHIFT CREW - THE NORSEMEN
The crew consists of a group of close friends with similar yet varied backgrounds. Currently two of us (Anders and Hans) are studying Veterinary Medicine, Phillip is an officer in the Danish army, Benjamin is studying Environmental/Hydro Engineering, and Jakob is studying Civil Engineering. Each crewmember has particular qualities and together we preside over a set of skills besides our current occupation including expertise in film and photography, contemporary art, music, literature, computer programming, and extreme sports. In unison we are the Norsemen and we aim to make the most of all the opportunities for creative, physical, and intellectual achievement that the journey will doubtlessly provide. THE PERIPHERY OF OUR PLANET
Starting in Bocas del Toro, Panama in July; the course of the one-year journey crosses the Panama Canal into the Pacific and follows the Humboldt Current to the Marquesas in French Polynesia. Staying in French Polynesia to cruise the Society Islands and later Gambier and Pitcairn, Blueshift will eventually reach Easter Island as 2012 comes to a close. From there we plan to sail up to the Panama Canal again and, after re-crossing it, embark on our Caribbean expedition which will take us to Jamaica, Cuba, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, British Virgin Islands and St. Lucia. INTO THE BLUE
The idea to sail in the Pacific and the Caribbean originated from a personal desire to explore Earth and ourselves. Despite such a personal source, the core nature of the Norsemen Expedition lies in its communal essence. Our voyage is about sharing when times get tough and about consideration, discretion, patience, acceptance, and respect for each other and the societies we visit, for their culture and for nature upon which we are so dependent. Spreading awareness of the possibilities of treading lightly while still traveling big is essential to us. This is our only planet. Enjoy it, but do so responsibly. Learning, testing boundaries, moving them and ultimately removing them is the goal of The Norsemen Odyssey. This combined with an ambition to respectfully experience some of the more remote regions of the planet is at the core of our hopes.
