“My mom has a way of articulating her own feelings and driving that from other people. I appreciate that because you can express emotion but to be able to communicate it is a skill. She does that naturally really well. I admire her as a woman. Especially in today’s day and age. You can get so fixated on what the world wants us to appear as. She has always beated to her own drum. I didn’t know her when she was my age obviously, but I can only imagine I would have been inspired by her if she had been my friend at my age. I almost wish I would have been my moms best friend when she was my age.”

“I have a guy friend and he’s a little bit older than me. He tells me some of the things he has been through in his life and about his lifestyle back in the day. The person that he was and the person that he is now, it’s like totally different. From the stories that he tells me and the decisions that he made back then to become the person that he is now, it makes me look at my life and realize that I haven’t been through hardly anything that he has been through. So, whenever he tells me some of the stuff that he has done, something that he’s been through or stuff he has learned, I listen. When certain things come up in my life I look at what he’s been through and it lets me see that things aren’t as bad as they were for him and he made it through so I should be able to make it through this right here.”

“I’m afraid of disappointing the kids I work with at church. I co-lead the 9th grade boys. That’s such a pivotal age so I just want to make sure that we live life with them properly and that they can learn from watching us and maybe learn from our mistakes that we made at that age. For the longest that didn’t make any sense to me. I thought, I am not a bad parent! I took it real personal but that’s not what she meant. It was years later when I understood what she meant.
