ALFOMBRAS, or carpets, is a vibrant expression of faith and culture in Guatemala. Join WWN Navigators as we take to the streets to photograph these beautiful tapestries.

As the sun begins to rise, the streets come alive with a flurry of activity. Families and communities gather to meticulously create intricate carpets of flowers, sawdust, pine needles, and other natural materials. These alfombras stretch along the procession routes, transforming the cobblestone streets into vibrant tapestries of color and texture.

The designs vary from simple patterns to elaborate scenes depicting religious motifs, biblical passages, and traditional symbols. Skilled artisans spend hours planning and crafting these ephemeral masterpieces, weaving together petals of vibrant roses, marigolds, chrysanthemums, and other native flowers.

The air is filled with the sweet fragrance of blossoms as the alfombras take shape, each one a testament to the devotion and artistic skill of its creators. As the procession passes, participants walk reverently over the carpets, their footsteps a symbol of humility and reverence.
