The proposal, ”Kitara, taivas ja tähdet” (‘A Guitar, the Sky and the Stars’) by OOPEAA together with tmi Otto Samuli Heinonen has been awarded second prize in a competition seeking for ideas for a vision for the future development of Ylöjärvi. Drawing from the long history of Ylöjärvi as an ideal location for business and services at the intersection of good transport links in proximity of Tampere, the third biggest city in Finland, the proposed plan creates a pleasant scale that combines good transport connections, functioning services, lively urban space, and a strong connection with nature.

It was an honor to participate in the invited competition for a new House of Espoo and its surrounding blocks. Our proposal, Kontrapunkti weawes the temporal layers of the urban structure together into a new whole. It celebrates the character of Espoo as a fundamentally modern city built around the ideal of creating an urban concentration with an easy access to the surrounding nature. Renderings 1,2 and 3 .no

After an eventful year with a broad range of projects of different scales and types, it is again time to slow down for a break around the Holidays. During this year, many of our recent projects have been recognized with important international awards, including the Tikkurila Church and Housing, the Karlsson Housing, and the Villa B. We have also had a chance to embark on many new projects, both big and small, from the development of entire city districts to educational buildings and housing to exhibition spaces for the arts and pavilions for events. None of it would have been possible without our amazing, dedicated team and our wonderful collaborators. We want to express our heartfelt thanks to all of you! Wishing you all peaceful and relaxing holidays, we look forward to continuing the collaboration with you in the coming year 2023!

Konsthall Tornedalen, a view from the river bank.
The site is located in a breathtakingly beautiful place on the Torniojoki river bank with a view to the arctic hills and the wilderness of Lapland. The building is carefully designed to fit in the delicate nature of the landscape. Taking its cue from the heritage of wooden barn houses in the area, the design creates a large wooden building with a strong but simple shape. It suits well the program of exhibitions and events of the Konsthall Tornedalen. As a kunsthalle, it is an art museum and performance space without a permanent collection.
