Meet The Crew Monday: Gavin

This week, we’re introducing Gavin, Flight/Ground Safety, a dedicated father, former soldier, and turbine mechanic who thrives on challenges and new experiences. From leading a Scout/Sniper platoon to keeping turbines running, Gavin knows a thing or two about precision, skill, and adventure.

How’d you come to discover Austin Heli Tours?

"I was at an event with my daughter when she spotted a helicopter and was completely amazed by it. Of course, I had to ask Luke if she could take a closer look. That moment stuck with me.. it was the start of something bigger."

What’s your favorite part about working at Austin Heli Tours?

"I just love being around the people and seeing how excited they get. There’s something about the sound, the movement, and the way helicopters capture people’s attention that never gets old. The friends I’ve made within Austin Heli Tours, bar none, one of the best parts."

What’s your favorite tour?

"A sunset tour over the city. There’s just something about watching the skyline light up while the sun goes down, it never gets old. Seeing people take it all in, whether it’s their first time or not, makes it even better."

Meet The Crew Monday: Mark S.

This week, we’re introducing Mark S., one of our talented pilots at Austin Heli Tours! From flight school to the skies over Austin, Mark’s journey in aviation started with a single helicopter tour and now, he’s here to help others experience that same thrill.

How’d you come to discover Austin Heli Tours?

“I had the good fortune of meeting Luke Rizzo during flight school. We went through almost all of our helicopter ratings together and eventually became flight instructors, teaching new students about the joy of helicopter aviation. When he approached me to fly with him again, I didn’t hesitate to say yes.”

What’s your favorite part about working at Austin Heli Tours?

“Luke and I have been friends for years, and it’s always a pleasure to work with him, especially when we get to share aviation with others. My first helicopter flight was on vacation, and it completely changed my life. You may not decide to switch careers because of a single tour (I’ll admit, that was a bold choice), but if we can bring even a fraction of that wonder to you, I know we’ve done our job well.”

What’s your go-to tour during Spring?

“The Lake Travis Tour. It’s a perfect reminder of just how beautiful Central Texas really is. Seeing it from the air gives you a whole new appreciation for the area. It is WAY better than sitting in hour two of I-35 traffic.”

This week, we’re introducing Meech, one of our incredible pilots at Austin Heli Tours! From scuba diving in Western Australia to flying over Texas skies, Meech has always been drawn to adventure. After years of flying in Oregon, Washington, and Oklahoma, she’s back in Austin doing what she loves!

How’d you come to discover Austin Heli Tours?

“I was looking for a flying job that kept me less on the road, and I’ve known Luke (Founder) since flight school. I reached out with some compelling arguments (threats) to not only get hired but also secure my rightful place as employee of the month… every month.”

Seems like battle of the employee of the month has commenced!

What’s your favorite part about flying in Austin?

“Sharing my city from a different perspective. I love being someone’s first helicopter experience! Plus, I love to yap, and having a captive audience in the backseat? Top tier.”

What’s your favorite helicopter tour?

“The Beautiful Sunset Tour because it’s never the same twice. The colors bounce off the buildings in a different way every evening, and it’s just the right amount of time in the air without feeling rushed. It is the best excuse to fly over Zilker Park and all things along the Lake.”

“I met Luke, Founder of AHT, at an event where he had his helicopter on display, and we hit it off from there. That connection led me to become part of the team, and I’ve been here ever since.”

What’s your favorite part about working at Austin Heli Tours?

“The solid team we’ve built and the customer service we provide. The flying is amazing, but it’s about making sure every passenger has an unforgettable experience, and I love being a part of that.”

“I reached out to Luke, the owner and operator, for flight training years ago. After completing my commercial helicopter license, I worked alongside Luke on various helicopter jobs: both flying and assisting on the ground. When Austin Heli Tours launched, I was offered a position and have been flying here ever since.”

What’s your favorite part about working at Austin Heli Tours?

“Sharing the experience of flying with no doors. There’s nothing like it, this absolutely gives you the best visibility and true feeling of being up in the air that no other flying machine could accomplish.”
