केदारनाथ से जुड़ी पौराणिक कथाएँ हिन्दू धर्म में विशेष स्थान रखती हैं, खासकर महाभारत के संदर्भ में। कथा के अनुसार, कुरुक्षेत्र युद्ध के बाद, पांडव अपने रिश्तेदारों की हत्या के अपराध बोध से ग्रस्त थे और भगवान शिव से क्षमा प्राप्त करना चाहते थे। लेकिन शिव जी पांडवों को क्षमा करने के लिए इच्छुक नहीं थे और उनसे बचने के लिए हिमालय की ओर चले गए। उन्होंने एक बैल (नंदी) का रूप धारण कर लिया और केदारनाथ घाटी में छिप गए।

पांडवों ने शिव जी का पीछा किया, और अंततः भीम ने केदारनाथ में उन्हें बैल के रूप में देखा। भीम ने बैल की पूंछ और पिछले पैरों को पकड़ने की कोशिश की, लेकिन भगवान शिव ने पांडवों से बचने के लिए स्वयं को भूमि में समा लिया। जैसे ही वे भूमि में समाए, उनके शरीर के विभिन्न भाग हिमालय के अलग-अलग स्थानों पर प्रकट हुए। आज ये स्थल पंच केदार (पाँच पवित्र स्थान) के रूप में पूजे जाते हैं। केदारनाथ में भगवान शिव का कूबड़ प्रकट हुआ था, जबकि अन्य स्थानों पर उनके भिन्न अंग प्रकट हुए—तुगनाथ (भुजाएं), रुद्रनाथ (मुख), मध्यमहेश्वर (नाभि) और कल्पेश्वर (बाल और सिर)।

*** केदारनाथ और आदि शंकराचार्य ***

केदारनाथ से जुड़ी एक अन्य महत्वपूर्ण कथा आदि शंकराचार्य से जुड़ी है, जो 8वीं शताब्दी के महान दार्शनिक और संत थे। माना जाता है कि आदि शंकराचार्य ने केदारनाथ की यात्रा की और यहां पत्थरों से बने मंदिर का निर्माण किया, जो आज भी विद्यमान है। कहा जाता है कि केदारनाथ में उन्होंने समाधि प्राप्त की थी, और यह उनकी अंतिम यात्रा स्थली मानी जाती है।

**** भैरव का संरक्षण ****

केदारनाथ मंदिर परिसर में पास के एक पहाड़ी पर भैरवनाथ को समर्पित एक मंदिर भी स्थित है। भैरवनाथ को केदारनाथ का रक्षक देवता माना जाता है, जो मंदिर को बुरी शक्तियों से बचाते हैं। स्थानीय मान्यता के अनुसार, सर्दियों के दौरान, जब मंदिर बंद रहता है, तो भैरवनाथ मंदिर की रक्षा करते हैं और उसे हिमस्खलन और अन्य प्राकृतिक आपदाओं से बचाते हैं।

**** तीर्थ और आध्यात्मिक महत्व ****

केदारनाथ बारह ज्योतिर्लिंगों में से एक है, जो भगवान शिव के सबसे पवित्र मंदिरों में गिने जाते हैं। यहां की यात्रा को आध्यात्मिक शुद्धिकरण और पुनर्जन्म के चक्र से मुक्ति का मार्ग माना जाता है। श्रद्धालु इस तीर्थ की यात्रा कर अपने पापों का प्रायश्चित करने और मोक्ष प्राप्ति की कामना करते हैं।

The story of Tungnath Temple is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology, particularly linked to the Mahabharata. According to legend, after the Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas sought Lord Shiva to absolve them of the sins of killing their kin during the battle. However, Shiva, unwilling to forgive them easily, disguised himself as a bull and hid in the Garhwal Himalayas.

When the Pandavas pursued him, Shiva tried to escape by diving into the ground. Different parts of his body appeared at various places, which are now known as the Panch Kedar temples. Tungnath, meaning “Lord of the Peaks,” is where Shiva’s arms emerged, making it one of the holiest of these five shrines. Today, Tungnath stands as the highest Shiva temple in the world, attracting both pilgrims and trekkers with its divine significance and spectacular Himalayan views.

Reach Guptakashi / Sonprayag

* At morning we will reach Rishikesh.
* Enroute, you will witness the enchanting view of River Ganga, the confluence of river Bhagirathi and river Alaknanda at Devprayag.
* After the visit, take a hault near Srinagar for some breakfast at Dhabas or Local restaurants.
* Resume your drive and witness the mesmerizing view of Rudraprayag and Ukhimath, after reaching Guptkashi/Sonprayag.
* Check-in at the hotel for an overnight stay.
* Dinner will be served.

Visit Kedarnath Temple

• Wake up early in the morning at around 2
AM and head out to Gaurikund to avoid traffic.
• Gaurikund is a base point for Kedarnath and also is an important site in Hinduism.
Your trekking route will start from here itself.
* Have your breakfast here and start your trek to Kedarnath temple from Gaurikund, it is a 16 kms long trek so if you wish you can rent pony or palanquin for the trek.
* On your way, you can take a stop at Rambara for some light refreshment or Lunch.
* Reach the top and after completing the darshan of Kedarnath Temple (if possible on the same day), have dinner and overnight stay near the Temple

*Day: 3*
Trek down to Gaurikund & Then Travel Towards Chopta

* In the morning, go for temple darshan at Kedarnath Shrine. It is a scenic spot situated against the backdrop of majestic Kedarnath range.
* Take a moment to breathe in the spiritual aura of this place and witness the scenic beauty of Garhwal Himalayan range surrounding the Temple which will give you a feeling that it is indeed Shiva's abode.
* Trek back and after reaching Guptkashi/Sonprayag, We will drive to Chopta Valley and have dinner and overnight stay at Chopta campsite.

*Day: 4*
Visit Tungnath Temple & Chandrashila Summit & travel towards Rishikesh

* Wake up in the morning with beautiful view of Chopta Valley. After freshen up, have your breakfast and then be ready to trek to the World's highest Shiva Temple (Tungnath).
* Trek will start from Chopta market and to reach Tungnath Temple you have to go through a 4 km hike and then from Tungnath temple it will be a 1 km hike to Chandrashila Summit (optional).
* After spending some time at Tungnath and Chandrashila, we will head back to our campsite.
* Reach your campsite, Have lunch & start journey to Rishikesh (5hrs)

*Day: 5*
Visit Rishikesh & start journey to delhi

* Wake up & get ready for river rafting after that we will visit local ghat area
* In evening we can witness the Holy Ganga Arti at
* After that, we will start our overnight journey towards Delhi. Take a halt en route to Delhi for dinner (personal expense)
* Reach Delhi
