Date for the diary - Sat 15th June - The Round the Island Race. See over a thousand yachts competing in a day long race around the island. From 11:30 they are expected to start reaching Ryde but the most epic viewing point will of course be the needles.

On Saturday 8th June there will be Armed Forces Day on Southsea Common - just by where the hovercraft lands. There is a 50% hovercraft discount on that day so if looking to attend, book quickly!!! It includes an air display by the Red Arrows so probably visible from Ryde Seafront as well.

There are plenty of D-Day events in Portsmouth to mark 80 years since D-Day. Members of the armed forces and veterans can get 50% off travel with Hovertravel.

Grace (10) has a bit of a passion for photography and took this great shot from the house at a bowl of sea glass which we have collected from all over the island. If you want to know the best beach for sea glass, you’ll have to book a stay 🤣. It’s not somewhere most people would expect and definitely not on any top 10 lists on Facebook.

Wow! Amazing photo.

I have been wanting to capture this image for many years but the conditions never quite came together, but last night (evening) I could see a large shower looming in the distance towards Salisbury that was moving this way, so made the decision to head to the Needles in the hope I would be able to not only capture a Rainbow timelapse, but also a Rainbow over the Needles, and in the end I managed both. The full Rainbow arch was only just about visible, but even so I am now happy to strike this one of the list......for now.

Although currently booked for the Isle of Wight Festival weekend, just sharing as it is great fun and definitely worth going to if you can. The public transport to the festival from all over the island is great so it’s pretty easy to get to from most other AirBnBs. Tickets are often resold all the way up to the event if you look on the various Facebook groups.

Beautiful walk today from Gurnard to Cowes then back - breezy and bright. Part of the round the island coastal path that runs outside of the property. A quick coffee in the brilliant Compass Bar Cowes then when back in Ryde, popping around the corner to the fantastic brand new RT Café Grill & Thompson's overlooking the sea for a few cocktails. Definitely somewhere to visit if staying. Only 2 mins walk away.
