With the exception of our full season renter who is with us until the End of September, that's a wrap!

Thank you to everyone who rented this year! Out of 11 weeks for each building from June 23 thru September 8 (33 total) We had 4 open weeks! 88% Occupancy! Our full season renter was there for all of May, June and September too!

A special thanks to Rob F our all purpose property manager. We couldn't do it without him! Same with Amanda's cleaning crew!

I have had folks already try to book weeks for next summer, but we will stick with how we usually do it.
**Prior renters will be able to make reservations in Early February; I will email you when I am ready to roll.
**New renters will be able to make reservations in Early March-- Watch this space for the 'open for reservations' announcement!

(May, June and September rentals will be possible too...reach out to work it out with us if you want to be there 'off peak' season!)

Bar Harbor Fourth of July -

Two years ago I made a trek to Acadia to see if I could capture the fireworks display in Bar Harbor. My initial idea was to hike up Cadillac and look down on the display from up high. But my friend John Putnam let me know that there was a unique opportunity to capture the fireworks from Bar Island, which is only accessible at low tide, and the tide happened to line up with the time of the fireworks.

It was great being out there with John. The mosquitos were voracious, but settled down a bit as night wore on. The large crowd in the park across the water was pretty impressive, being illuminated whenever the fireworks burst. This was my favorite image of about 400, capturing the red, white, and blue colors. I also like the way it reflected around the rocks in the water in my foreground, and how Cadillac Mountain loomed in the background.

I’m getting ready for Bath Heritage Days, where we’ll have a tent set up in Library Park this Saturday and Sunday displaying my photography, including some large metal prints of my latest images of the eclipse and northern lights, so I probably won’t be going out for fireworks this year. I hope you can stop by and see me!

As some of you may recall, one of the winter storms significantly damaged the sea wall in front of the Yellow shutter cottage. The wall has now been rehabbed and should be good for a few more seasons. We decided to leave the access path from the lawn to the wall open as we think it is easier for taking canoes and kayaks down to the water.

We had a gate installed (no secret to unlock) as a visual reminder to parents and kiddos that there is a 4 foot drop at the bottom !

Parents, please keep the path gate closed to slow down little ones!

You may have noticed that some of the kindling pile includes exotic woods— there is a furniture maker in town that sells offcuts in large bags for use as such.

Cynthia and Karen are at the cottages this weekend!
All is well after the storms of winter are gone.

During one of the December storms, our 30 year old (or more!) retaining wall suffered some significant damage. The repaired and strengthened wall is now complete! We are going to leave the path down the hill to make easy access for people who bring kayaks or paddle boards. We will get a handrail put up shortly too!

We are also replacing all street side doors with new ( modern!) doors and push button locks. The blue building one is done, yellow and red will be done as time permits

If you are looking to rent, let us know asap! We have only 4or 5 more spots open. I wonder if we can ‘sell oout’

17/05/2024

We are almost at 100% occupancy! One building is sold out for the summer! The blue shutter building has 4 spots left, the yellow has 3!

If you want to book a week, email us asap before someone else grabs the spot you want!

Some beautiful Maine photography

I feel like a break from the windy desert today - windy, windy, windy! So I'm taking a short mental/visual trip to Maine, and Acadia National Park in particular. It's so nice to have a visual library to aid in these travels.
This was one of the best and luckiest examples I have of how studying the weather maps and radar can pay off. Visualizing what might happen two hours in the future, and where to be if the mind's image becomes manifest, can lead to a memorable image. It took a half-hour to drive from our RV site to this field of lupine, and all the way I kept imagining the patch of showers on the radar as drifting down to this spot as the sun came out. And when the narrow band of clouds lifted on the western horizon, and the showers arrived, people came out of their houses to watch this rainbow for the 20 minutes it lasted.
