Piper Mackay is an African wildlife and tribal photographer. A land she fell in love with when she first touched foot on it’s rich red soil.

She instantly made the decision to change directions and created an exit plan on a successful career in the fashion industry. She is now living in Nairobi, Kenya. Driven to create compelling imagery and stories that make a difference, her work takes her deep off the beaten path, immersed into the cultures and wild environments she is photographing. Her passion for the natural world has grown into

a lifelong commitment to inspire others to explore, respect and preserve the beauty of our fragile planet. For those seeking a little more adventure and excitement, her photographic wildlife and cultural safaris offer a deeper experience throughout the African continent. Featured articles of her work have been printed in national publications such as; Outdoor Photographer, National Geographic Traveller, Nature Photographer, Ranger Finder, and Selamata, as well as, local travel and online magazines. Her images have grace the pages of Natures Best, National Geographic, WWF calendars, birders and numerous travel publications. Her images have been on exhibit at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington DC, The Museum of History and industry in Seattle Washington, The Art Wolfe gallery, The G2 Galley and are hanging in private collections.

The Kalahari, a photographer’s dream, is an arid expanse with tall ivory grasses and twisted acacia trees silhouetted against the horizon. The pans have a mirage-style effect, making the blue-clay look as though it is filled with water when, in reality, it is bone dry.

Wildlife sightings are more extraordinary, with majestic lions blending into the golden grasses and white sand backgrounds, agile cheetahs stalking their prey, and graceful giraffes silhouetted against the horizon. It’s an experience that will leave you in awe. Its lean body, built for speed, propels it to 70 mph in seconds, while its distinctive tear-like markings enhance focus as it locks onto prey. This iconic predator’s beauty is both mesmerizing and practical, blending into the sunlit grasslands to stalk its quarry. Yet behind its legendary prowess lies a fragile existence, threatened by shrinking habitats and human encroachment. The mortality rate is near 90%. The cheetah’s story is one of breathtaking brilliance balanced on the knife-edge of survival.

Life in the Mundari cattle camps starts well before sunrise, smoke is still filling the air. As your eyes adjust to the dim light you will begin to notice the shadow figures moving through the density of the misty smoke and around the massive-horned Ankole-Watusi cattle as the women and young girls mild the cattle, make coffee and porridge, and distribute the food.
