Christmas theme table setting with a difference!
A few selected pieces of Toda embroidery table runners are the perfect gift for someone special.
Embroidered in red and black wool on handwoven cream cotton fabric, the work is cheerful and unique for the festive table setting. The art form embroidery acquired Geographical Indication in 2013.
The Todas are an indigenous Dravidian ethnic group of people who have lived in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu for over 2,000 years.
Their dwelling is a barrel shaped single room hut made of bamboo, grass and cane. It has a carved wooden door.
Their pastoral economy relies on buffalo dairy products. They have a unique relationship with the Nilgiri mountains and river systems providing the surrounding plains with principal source of fresh water.
What a pleasure it was for my clients to meet and interact with the women artisans on an earlier tour, even without a common language!
From the hills of south India to the verdant tea plantations of Sri Lanka, come and join us our tour in August 2025.

Today I want to share an experience of immense gratitude to the ‘family welfare’ section of the New Zealand police based in Christchurch and Tauranga.
It started 24 hours ago when a cleaning company in Tauranga called me in Christchurch to ask whether a family member of mine they provided services to, was in hospital as they couldn’t through to his phone. I responded in the negative and asked them to keep me posted, but never heard a thing. In the meantime I tried to contact my relative myself, without success.
Six hours later I spoke to my sister on the other side of the world and so the ‘search’ started (short of contacting Interpol), with no positive outcome for several hours.
I then consulted with other family members in Australia and in Christchurch as to the best approach and was advised to get in touch with the ‘family welfare’ section of the police in Christchurch.
Within the hour a police officer from Tauranga was on the phone clarifying some leads and less then two hours later a policeman was sitting next to my relative with a phone call to me.
What a tremendous job so well done, in such a short space of time, to put all of us at peace and much relief!
We cannot thank them enough for such a tremendous job.❤️
