Let’s hope for a change in U. S. Policy. We need to get back to visit Cuba.
Drivers honked their horns and applause erupted in Havana on Saturday after Joe Biden was declared the winner of the U.S. presidential election, reflecting hopes on the Communist-run island that he would seek to improve U.S.-Cuban ties.

Hello friends. I’ve been in touch with my friends in Havana. They all are healthy and the virus is pretty much contained. Thanks to free medical services to the population.
“With 11.2 million people, Cuba had just over 5,000 coronavirus cases and 115 deaths by Friday, one of the lowest mortality rates in the world. By comparison, Puerto Rico, with 3.2 million people, had five times as many deaths.
People who tested positive in Cuba were whisked away to the hospital for two weeks — even if they were asymptomatic — and their exposed contacts were sent to isolation for two weeks.”
However, the lack of tourism is killing them. Long lines for food and necessities have returned. Here is an update from the NYT.I can’t wait to get back!
The island was able to control the coronavirus, but the dearth of tourists in the pandemic’s wake strangled an economy already damaged by mismanagement and U.S. sanctions.

I'm leaving for Havana next Tuesday with suitcases full of donations. I received a request from one of my farmer friends--Fernando at Finca Marta. He asks for help to control fleas on his dogs. He tried PetArmor Plus and it didn't work. Anyone have a suggestion or care to donate to this cause? Vets encouraged. I will also see Gretell and Kizzy. At this point all I have room for is money. Message or Venmo me (oh, that sounds dirty). or both (that sounds worse)!
These are a few of the many dogs I "take care of" on my trips to Havana. Help me help them.

Let Me Show You The Magic of Cuba
Many of you know me from my 22-year career as a food, travel, and feature writer for D Magazine. Three years ago, I spent two weeks traveling across Cuba. I fell in love with the people and the rich heritage of history, politics, art, music, farming, and, of course, food. Now I devote my time to arranging trips to Cuba and South Africa. The itineraries I produce are based on the culinary and farming aspects of the country. I have created relationships with many of the local chefs, bartenders, and farmers who go out of their way to produce special events for my guests. It is a wonderful way to meet the locals and share cultural and educational ideas.
I have never been a fan of group travel, so you can count on me to do everything possible to make the small-group experience seamless and invigorating without the ambiance of a cattle call.
Recent changes in travel restrictions make traveling outside a group more difficult. However, if this is the way you want to travel, I can help you handle arrangements. If you have a group with a focus and would to see Cuba, I’m your one-stop source.
One of the most compelling stories I’ve witnessed in Cuba is Finca Marta. The picture above is me with agronomist Fernando Funes Monzote and his wife, Claudia. They are pioneers in the Cuban new-world of farming fresh produce for Cuba. Their 60-acre farm represents their commitment to transforming the Cuban countryside into an ecological, socially equitable, and healthy food system. All of my groups visit Finca Marta and enjoy long leisurely afternoon eating food from the farm and listening to their magnificent, magical tale.
I look forward to hosting you soon. Please don’t hesitate to message me. My email is [email protected]
