The Ice Race

The Ice Race Probably the most challenging competitive event in the world. 12 teams of 3 will compete in a gruelling 300 mile race to the magnetic north pole.

The Ice race is an amazing Arctic adventure set in the high Canadian Arctic. A race over 300 nautical miles travelling across frozen sea and baron islands. You will be racing against other teams of 3 competing to get to the magnetic north pole first. This is an endurance race on skis pulling a pulk or sled behind you, everything you need to survive is in that sled......

You will experience a temp

erature range of between -15 and -35 without windchill. There is also the wildlife to contend with, caribou, Musk ox, wolves, foxes, hares, lemmings and of course Polar Bears.

Over the years that i worked on the Polar Challenge, i really got to know Resolute Bay very well. This is a small mostly Inuit community situated at Longitude 94° 59’ W
Latitude 74° 43’ N. Resolute is known as 'Qausuittuq' in Inuktitut, which means the 'place with no dawn' because of the long winter night this far north.

Ive never been there in the summer, we normally go in Spring. At this time of year the Ice is stable and the temperatures are between -10 to -35 Celcius. We still have 24 hour daylight but the sun isnt high in the sky yet.

I want other people to experience this area of the world before its too late.

Hello, the Ice race needs to happen. I need 15 willing participants to take up the challenge of a lifetime and help make this happen. Been quiet for too long, the Polar regions wont be here for ever and the area where we operate during the Ice race is one of the most amazing environments on this planet. this is a start, the more interest i get the more likely i (with help) can make this happen.

Interesting post on The Adventure Blog discussing the loss of the Arctic season. We think there are still great opportunities for adventurers and explorers to venture into these regions - the Ice Race is just one example!

I read this post with great interest. There certainly is a lot in the news about what global warming has done and is doing to the North Polar regions, among others. Some say that full North Pole expeditions are at an end from the Canadian side, bringing an end to what has been an amazing number of d…

Quick weather update from Resolute Bay in Canada, where The Ice Race will start from in 2016. It's a rather chilly -32°C at the moment. Better pack some thermals on that pulk!

The Cotswold Waterpark Four Pillars Hotel is surrounded by lots of lakes and is a great area to explore. So if you are coming along to our intro day, why not make a weekend of it and enjoy the waterpark............

Gearing up for the introduction day on the 28th of this month. For those who are coming along, feel free to bring people with you, friends and family are welcome and it will also give them a good understanding of what you are thinking about taking on.

The Ice Race Introduction day on the 28th September will be a great opportunity to find out more about this life changing challenge. The area the race operates in is very rarely visited. The Queen Elizabeth chain of Islands are in the North west passage area of Nunavut, with a lot of history of Polar Exploration. Resolute Bay has been the staging point for most of the modern day North Pole expeditions and has a wealth of history behind it. Being one of the most northerly communities in the world, majority Inuit - so you get a taste of the culture too.......

Check out the website www.theicerace.com and get yourself along to the introduction day, if nothing else, you will hear some great stories and have a free coffee........

For those concerned about the prospect of raising the funds for an expedition such as this, it might be worth looking up some of the organisations available that help with sponsorship for these sorts of exploits. ExPix is one (check sponsorship and athlete services under the services tab): www.expix.co.uk. Just keep in mind that any potential sponsor wants to know what you can do to raise awareness and publicity of their brand with what you're doing...
