Help to protect the sea turtles!

Protecting the wonderful sea turtles that inhabit our waters is integral to the work we do with the park. Unfortunately on Sunday morning one of the sea turtle volunteers patrolling Maho noticed a lifeless turtle in the water. The Turtle team was immediately notified and it was determined that the turtle was still alive but had sustained severe injuries from a boat propeller. With the help of volunteers, the turtle was removed from the water and transported to Canines, Cats & Critters where the difficult decision was made to euthanize.

Moments like these are a heartrending reminder to boaters to take care in our waters and slow down; and to snorkelers and swimmers to help protect these endangered creatures by keeping their distance! As is the gift of nature, Sunday ended on a positive note with the first hatched nest excavation of the season that indicated that new life in the form of 137 hawksbill hatchlings had entered the sea. The wonder of the next generation starting their journey.
