The highest point on our whole trek, 18,514 feet, on top of Kala Patthar overlooking Mount Everest and the Himalayas. Probably the highest point we will ever hike to. The going was slow, and really cold, but felt incredible at all the same time! In the moment sometimes I couldn't wait to go down, but now all I want to do is go back! @ Kala Patthar

Here we are at Everest Base Camp. We were amazed by the Khumbu ice field. Blue jagged ice coming down the mountain. What is crazy is you can't really even see Everest from base camp. The main mountain you can see here is Lhotse, the 4th highest mountain in the world. The other thing we couldn't fathom was how people camp here. There was not one peice of flat land. Plus where do they go to the bathroom? 😲 @ Everest Base Camp

Like the outdoors, we want beautiful photos to be accessible to everyone so we've updated pricing to hopefully reflect that goal. We're new to this so feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Also, does anyone know of an organization that focuses on travel sponsorship for youth lacking access or the financial ability to visit the outdoors? Or a nature/wildlife conservation organization? We plan to donate the majority of our profits to an organization or charity but need your help finding the right one (or two).

Thanks! Katy & Michael

Good morning from the Himalayas. On the days we started hiking before the sun hit the trail it was bitterly cold! Our hands and toes would be frozen within minutes, but once the sun hit our backs it was smooth sailing.

If you look above the blue lake you can see a stream of white snow coming down the mountain side. We saw our first avalanche happening right there. It looked crazy powerful and thankfully far in the distance!

On our 2nd "rest" day we hiked up 1,500 feet to acclimate. These rest days were some of the hardest on the trek, but delivered gorgeous views. Plus it felt great coming back down!

We're so proud to share our first release of photos for sale by Global Lanes!

Check out Photos Here! - https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-Cs3t8S/

We began taking photography more seriously when we started our global adventure 2.5 years ago. It was the perfect hobby to appreciate the outdoors - getting up for sunrises, hiking higher and further into the wilderness, soaking in the sunsets, and staying up late to stargaze.

We by no means expect anyone to purchase a photo, but if you choose to, please know it's the highest complement we could possibly receive.

Or, if you're just looking for another way to burn time before the glorious weekend, scroll through the photos and give us some feedback :)

We'll be adding to this current collection in the next month and we'll be sure to notify everyone.

Lastly, thank you to all our friends & family who have encouraged us to put ourselves out there and release these photos.

Cheers,

Katy & Michael

Can you imagine living here?! Aside from the scenery check out the trail across the lower mountain, the stone walls, the plotted farm land, and the roof on that house.

One valuable lesson we learned on this trek was hike slower. We tried to hike slow enough so we would never be out of breath, which saved us from getting the dreaded khombu cough. Plus keeping our faces covered while hiking and sleeping to help combat the cold dry air.

If you're ever struggling just think of this guy. Happy Monday!

The villages along the EBC route can't be reached by car and are too expensive by helicopter. All food, gear, and equipment has to be brought in by yak, donkey, or on your back. Some of these guys carry incredible amounts of weight and they often are wearing sandals on the steep, rocky trails.

Here's a glimpse into the places we stayed along the trail and what the sleeping situation looks like. The villages are filled with Tea Houses which are basic little hotels, some nicer than others. You pay a minimal fee to sleep there and you have to eat dinner and breakfast in the tea house. The beds are simple but generally fairly comfortable and you carry your own sleeping bag. There is always a community room where you hang out, eat, meet tons of interesting travelers, and if you're lucky they have a warm fire starting around 5pm. @ Nepal

While staying in Tengboche we spent some time at the monastery watching the monks perform their daily rituals. Pretty neat to see them dancing around the courtyard while it was probably 35 degrees out.

Next stop Tengboche. That evening at the Tea House they gave us warm towels before dinner. @ Tengboche Monastery

Our first time seeing Mount Everest with our own eyes. It's gorgeous, along with all the other massive peaks surrounding it. Since it's the only peak in the jet stream you can always identify Everest because it always looks like it's smoking off the top.

Merry Christmas all! Hope everyone had safe and merry holiday!

This is Namche Bizaar. It felt like a real city up in the Himalayas, located at 11,286 feet (3,440 meters). There are cafes, bakeries, and even a post office. No roads in or out so all postage is carried by a yak.

The second photo is the mountains looking in the opposite direction of Everest. Crazy, right?!

One other group to watch out for is the donkeys. At one point I was crossing a long bridge and a group of donkeys was headed my way. They entered the bridge just 3 steps away from me getting off and I was pinned against the railing. I had to walk back across and let them pass. 😤😅 The donkeys work hard though. Carrying huge gas canisters up and down the mountains.

The first couple of days on the trail were some of the nicest because we nearly had the trail to ourselves. Although, they were long hard days. Always climbing, going way down and climbing again.

Since nearly the whole time we were trekking in Nepal we were without WiFi and we are always behind on our photos I want to go back and share our trip. We started in a town called Salleri, further back than the typical start in Lukla. It was a 12-hour insanely nerve wracking jeep ride to the town of Salleri from Kathmandu. With one flat tire, and of course a little car sickness we made it. The beauty of starting at this point is you can avoid the scary flight into Lukla and you start lower in the mountains where it's so green and lush.

We're a mixed bag of emotions boarding our final flight home! After the most incredible 2.5 years we have finally decided it's time to return to "reality". We made it home the night before Thanksgiving and were able to successfully surprise our families! We're super excited for the next adventure and to have a little more stability in our lives, a kitchen to cook in, and more time with friends and family. We cannot express how grateful we are for what we've been able to see/do/experience in the last 2.5 years. We know it's going to be a huge adjustment returning to work and all the other daily routines of life, but we are ready for it. We will always have our memories and thousands of photos to look back on. 😍
