Xavi Martinez is an incredibly talented hobbyist photographer based in Santa Maria who focuses on landscape photography, astrophotography, and aerial photography. Xavi uses his Sony a7 IV and Mavic 3 to capture images of his adventures around SLO County, California, and beyond on his feed, where you’ll also find a few sweet reels of his pup Toby 🐶

FUN FACT:
Did you know that if you take Highway 1 just north of you can see a real shipwreck?

Park at the dirt pullout with the windmill on Highway 1 just a few minutes north of Cayucos and take the trail down and left toward Cayucos. It’s a flat easy walk along the Estero Bluffs about a mile to the end of the bluffs - with sweeping views of ocean, shorebirds and seals on the large rocks along the way.

You’ll see the shipwreck in a quiet cove. It’s best to go at low tide to venture down for a closer view. That way you’ll also be able to explore the nearby tide pools for sea life. 🌊

Are you hungry?

Kuma offers sushi and much more, including ramen, teriyaki, and other Japanese fusion dishes. The cornerstone of the menu, however, is locally-sourced fish and seafood. The owners of Kuma have a longstanding relationship with local fisheries and sea vessels, making sea-to-table sushi a reality every day. As for Kuma ramen, this dish has a cult following with people who appreciate its 24-hour-cooked broth and fresh vegetables. Locals also love Kuma’s Moco Loco, a Hawaiian dish of Wagyu Spam, pineapple, and white rice topped with a poached egg and gravy. Rolls span from classic to fusion (including some made with cajun spices, jalapenos and cream cheese), in addition to traditional sashimi and tempura. Look for a fairly robust sake menu, as well as beer and wine. The vibe inside is contemporary, fresh, relaxed and fun, just like the food. Locals tip: Come between 2 and 4pm any day and get half-off your ramen order and $1 sake.
