paris.explore Starting November 4, 2024, Paris will implement its Zone à Trafic Limité (ZTL) to reduce transit traffic and enhance air quality in the city center. This decision follows a 2019 condemnation by the European Court of Justice for failing to meet air quality standards.

The ZTL will cover the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th arrondissements and aims to promote sustainable transportation.

A system of signs and controls will monitor traffic, focusing initially on education before requiring proof of residency or exemption (e.g., for delivery drivers and shopkeepers). Future plans may include video monitoring.

In 2000 BCE, Phoenicians arrived and erected the first temple of “Baal”, the Sun God.
In 334 BCE, Alexander the Great conquered the area and renamed it “Heliopolis”, the Sun City.

With its colossal structures, Baalbeck became one of the finest examples of Imperial Roman architecture. They built impressive temples, i.e., Bacchus, Jupiter, Venus, and the Sun. Today, the ruins are the site of the Baalbeck International Festival, which attracts artists and performance groups from around the world.

Temples of the Beqaa Valley, a collection of shrines and Roman temples dispersed throughout the valley, including in Qasr el Banat and Hosn Niha.
The World’s Biggest Stone: Jupiter Temple Stone weighted over 1,000 tons, and almost 40,000 men were needed to move each one.
