Mahayana Buddhist tradition has started to develop in India by about the 1st century BC. It has thrived in India between the 7th to 12th centuries AD. Though Sri Lanka is predominantly flourished with Theravada Buddhism the close relations of Indian Buddhists with Sri Lankan Buddhists especially in the Abhayagiri sect, Mahayana Buddhism has influenced Sri Lanka. Mahayana Buddhism was also developed in the country with royal patronage from the middle of the Anuradhapura period.
The Ruwanweli Maha Seya, also known as the Maha Thupa, is a stupa in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Two quarts or one Dona of the Buddha's relics are enshrined in the stupa, making it the largest collection of his relics anywhere.🙏🌼🙏

Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple
Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple is a Buddhist monastery situated at the Race Course Road in Singapore. Known for housing one of the tallest Buddha statues, the temple is regarded as one of the most significant religious sites in the Lion City. The 15 feet high statue and the architecture of the temple are known to be influenced by Thai, Indian, and Chinese styles.
Phuket Big Buddha, or The Great Buddha of Phuket, is a seated Maravija Buddha statue in Phuket, Thailand. The official name is Phra Phutta Ming Mongkol Eknakiri.
The Silver Pagoda is located on the south side of the Royal Palace in Chey Chumneas, Phnom Penh in Cambodia. The official name is Wat Ubaosoth Ratanaram also known as Wat Preah Keo Morakot "Temple of the Emerald-Crystal Buddha" which is commonly shortened to Wat Preah Keo in Khmer.

Showa Daibutsu is a bronze Buddha statue located in Seiryuji temple in Aomori prefecture. Built in 1984, it stands 21.35 meters by itself, making it the tallest bronze sitting Buddha statue in Japan.
Tsunami Honganji Viharaya at Paraliya
This Buddha statue was opened on the 26th of December 2006 at Paraliya as a memorial to the over 35,000 Sri Lankans killed by the Tsunami on the 26th of December 2004. This statue is an exact replica of the 5th Century 175-foot Bamiyan Buddha Statue destroyed by the Muslim terrorists in Afghanistan. This replica was created using the earliest known sketches of the statue.
Polonnaruwa Lankathilaka Image House is a monolithic Buddha image house built by King Parakramabahu (1153-1186) lying on the South of Kiri Vehera. The building is completely made out of bricks and the outer walls are covered with elaborate designs and carvings. The Buddha statue is also completely made out of clay bricks and it has been 41 feet in height. Specially made flat bricks have been used to build this statue and today the portion above the shoulder is destroyed.
Swayambhunath🪷
Swarming with spirited monkeys (and so locally known as Monkey Temple), Swayambhunath is one of Nepal’s most revered pilgrimage sites. Its mythic origin dates back to prehistoric times, when Kathmandu Valley was a lake. Legend has it that the buddha Vipashyin tossed a seed into the lake, giving rise to a lotus flower and a stupa. Enraptured by light emanating from the stupa, the bodhisattva Manjushri sliced his sword through the surrounding hills to drain the lake so devotees could worship there for ages to come.

Maitreya Buddha, Ladakh
The golden statue of Maitreya Buddha glows in the middle of an enthralling Ladakhi landscape. Strikingly remarkable and beautiful, Likr Gompa is one of the most significant monasteries associated with Tibetan Buddhism. This 32 meter statue is located near Diskit Monastery situated at Nubra Valley in the Indian union territory of Ladakh. Also termed as Deskit Gompa, it is one of the largest and oldest Buddhist monasteries of Ladakh.

At Kelaniya, about 10km to the northeast of Colombo, in Sri Lanka, lays Kelani Rajamaha Viharaya, one of the most revered historic Buddhist temples of the orient. Set on the summit of a small mound lapped by the waters of the river Kelani, this beautiful shrine presents one of the most panoramic views ever offered to the tourist by this small island of ours, the pearl of the Indian Ocean. Among the many Buddhist temples of Sri Lanka, the Kelani Viharaya stands out as one of the most exquisite examples of the sculptor’s art. Its history runs back to more than 2500 years. In the days of yore, it always received full royal patronage, and to this day, it’s has been highly venerated by the people of the island. Its significance as a place of Buddhist worship is clearly evident in the island’s folklore.
The inner Sthupa of Asgiriya Maha Seya, Kandy Sri Lanka. The Asgiriya Maha Seya is located at Asgiri Maha Pirivena premises in Kandy is one of the most beautiful sthupas in Sri Lanka. The unique feature of the Sthupa is you can go to the inner chamber where there is another Sthupa with holy Buddha relics are enshrined. You may also view the beautiful paintings of the stages of life of the Buddha Sakyamuni painted on the inner walls.
🌍 Genuine Buddha Relics in India 🌍 The genuine caskets in which the Wholy Relics of the Buddha were enshrined are now displayed in The National Museum in New Delhi in Buddha Gallery. These caskets were excavated in several investigations done by William Peppe, a British in 1898 . The Brahmin letters carved on the casket says that these are the bone Relics portion given to the Buddha's relations by the ' Brahman Drona'.
🌍 The great Buddha in Bodh Gaya 🌍 The Great Buddha statue is one of the popular stops on the Buddhist pilgrimage and tourist routes in Bodh Gaya, Bihar (India). The statue is 19.5 m (64 ft) high representing the Buddha seated in a meditation pose, or dhyāna mudra, on a lotus in the open air. The total height of the construction is 80 ft (24 m) of which the Buddha makes up 64 ft (20 m), the lotus on which the Buddha sits 6 ft (1.8 m) and the lower pedestal 10 ft (3.0 m). The construction's width is nearly 60 ft (18 m) at its maximum. The statue was designed by V. Ganapati Sthapati and took seven years to complete using the labor of 12,000 stonemasons. The Great Buddha statue is located in a garden at the end of Temple Street and is surrounded by smaller sculptures of Buddha's ten principal disciples, five on each side. The Great Buddha was possibly the largest Buddha statue in India at the time and was consecrated on 18 November 1989 by the 14th Dalai Lama.
🌍 Neranjana River 🌍 Niranjana River also known as Falguni flows through the city of Gaya and is famous for both figuring in the Indian epic Ramayana (Pindadaan for King Dashratha by Devi Sita) and in the life of Siddhartha who attained Buddhahood under a Peepal (Banyan/Bodhi tree) on its bank. Legend goes that the river due a curse on it by Devi Sita is waterless most of the year (flowing only during the monsoon months). The river is considered holy by both Hindus and Buddhists.
🌍 Dungeshwari , where the Buddha engaged in self- mortification 🌍 Dungeshwari Hills are located at a distance of about 12-15 kms from Gaya, along the Falgu river. Chinese pilgrim Hiuen Tsang has mentioned these hills in his travelogue. The hills are most famous for the cave temples where Lord Buddha is said to have meditated before arriving in Gaya for his enlightenment.
