Santa Barbara to Carmel-by-the-Sea via State Route 1, i.e. PCH. Foggy day, but still hit some sights. Elephant Seals, Salmon Creek Falls, McWay Falls (into the ocean!)

Missed much of the desert bloom, but I caught a couple wonderful flowers. The saguaro cacti are big and funky, and it's so interesting to see a desert full of giant cacti stretching off into the horizon. Had a blast in the extreme heat.

Huge park with so much to see. Great biodiversity, and it's on the Rio Grande! A majestic park, and I will certainly be back. Hot, quiet, and in West Texas, but sometimes sacrifices must be made.

On a clear day, the view to the horizon is impeded only by the curvature of Earth. It has a few long trails, and no roads. Didn't have much time, so didn't get to see a great deal.

I've been seeing many petroglyphs at a few national parks, which I love, so I had to visit the Petroglyph National Monument and see some up close. Only scratched the surface of what this place has. Just north of Albuquerque

Large, and concentrated, trunks of petrified wood. Then we came upon the natural landscape, which has some badlands, a blue mesa, and a whole bunch of desert. Intrigued and spellbound by the geochemistry involved in the finer specimens of petrified wood

Getting my kicks

Came in to the North Rim, which is a couple thousand feet higher in elevation than the South Rim. Wonderful forest and meadows that lead right up to a spectacular view of the Grand Canyon. The day started out completely overcast, but the clouds parted in late afternoon, giving excellent light into the canyon!
