The US National Weather Service Melbourne Florida advises that Hurricane Milton remains a catastrophic category 5 hurricane this morning, forecast to make landfall as a dangerous major hurricane tonight. Many tornadoes are possible this afternoon/tonight, especially in organized rain bands. Hurricane force winds arrive tonight (Wednesday, October 9, 2024) into Thursday, along with an increasing threat for storm surge. Follow their page for storm updates.

Due to the increased threat of local impacts from Hurricane Milton, County of Volusia has expanded its evacuation order to include all of Evacuation Zone A, effective 8:00 AM on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. The expansion still encompasses all areas east of the Intracoastal Waterway and now also includes:

- Residents east of Ridgewood Avenue/U.S. 1 in Daytona Beach and Holly Hill
- Residents east of US-1 in Edgewater and Oak Hill
- Residents north of State Road 44 and east of Mullinax Ford in New Smyrna Beach
- Residents east of Bulow Creek State Park and any locations east of U.S. 1 before it - crosses the Tomoka River in Ormond Beach and Ormond-by-the-Sea
- Residents along the Spruce Creek River, between State Road 44 and South Nova near Trailwood Drive, or adjacent to Spruce Creek in Port Orange, South Daytona, and Daytona Beach Shores

The evacuation order also applies countywide to the following:

- All manufactured and mobile homes
- All low-lying areas and other areas prone to flooding
- All campsites and RV recreational parks

Residents and visitors can verify their specific evacuation zone by clicking below to enter their address:

https://floridadisaster.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/lookup/index.html?appid=aa18a2d8737c4d66bb6434a09e17203a

Shelter information can be found here:

https://www.volusia.org/hurricanes/

The Volusia County citizen information phone number is 866-345-0345.

City of Edgewater, Florida offices are closed today (Wednesday, October 9, 2024). There will be no trash or recycling pickups for the rest of the week.

Trucks will be working throughout the City today (Wednesday, October 9, 2024) to pick up yard debris generated by Hurricane Helene. Please do NOT put any additional debris to the curb where it could become an airborne hazard or in any drainage system like a swale or ditch which could interfere with drainage. If weather conditions deteriorate, trucks must discontinue pickups and residents should secure their debris in their garage or other safe area.

While the sand piles remain stocked, the supply of sandbags has run out. The City has distributed approximately 50,000 sandbags since September 19, 2024. An order of 24,000 bags is headed to the City and may arrive sometime today (Wednesday, October 9, 2024). These bags were ordered well in advance of this storm. If the supply arrives, the information will be posted on social media and the City's website (www.cityofedgewater.org)

Sand pile locations:

• Air Park staging area (1898 South Air Park Road)
• Mango Tree Lake (901 Mango Tree Drive)

Sand pile information:

• Both locations are accessible 24 hours a day.
• Residents should bring their own shovels and bags to both locations.
• Bags may also be purchased at local home supply centers or double-bagged, heavy-duty garbage bags may be used.

Residents can visit www.volusia.org to find locations of sandbag distribution being offered by Volusia County.

09/10/2024

TODAY IS THE FINAL DAY FOR SANDBAGS

Volusia County sandbag operations will be open from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow, Oct. 9, while supplies last. This is the last opportunity for Volusia County residents to fill sandbags at the following locations:

- Volusia County Fire Rescue Station 22, Oak Hill Station, 213 N. U.S. Highway 1, Oak Hill
- Volusia County Fire Rescue Station 23, Turnbull Station, 1850 Pioneer Trail, New Smyrna Beach
- Volusia County Fire Rescue Station 34, Indian Mound Station, 1700 Enterprise-Osteen Road, Osteen
- Volusia County Fire Rescue Station 45, St. Johns Station, 2580 W. State Road 44, DeLand
- Volusia County Fairgrounds, 3100 E. New York Ave., DeLand

There is a limit of 10 sandbags per household and residents are reminded to bring a shovel. Proof of Volusia County residency is required at all five County-operated locations. Several municipalities are also distributing sandbags. Most require proof of residency within their jurisdiction. Residents living in incorporated cities should contact their local government for eligibility guidelines.

Soooo I recently learned about a brand and am super excited to be doing a group cruise early 2026 aboard a very unique sailing adventure called Star Clippers. We will either be on the Royal Clipper, Star Clipper or Star Flyer, destination tbd!!

The Royal Clipper was built in 2000, refurbished in 2017! 227 passengers, 19,000 square feet of open deck, 54,000 square feet of billowing sails, a total of 42 sails!! 3 swimming pools, a marina platform for ocean access to water sports activities, shops, a spa, 3 bars/lounges, fitness center and more!!

The Star Clipper and Star Flyer are sister ships and are modern small ships in every way. They are both 379 feet long and each carry 166 guests over 36,000 square feet of sails. 16 sails billowing in the wind.

Both Star Clipper and Star Flyer feature open seating dining in an elegantly appointed dining room. Delightful indoor and outdoor Tropical and Piano Bars, shops, library, 2 swimming pools, 170 passengers, and more…

Please stay tuned for details and destinations. I am taking a trip on one of these ships in December and am expecting a trip of a lifetime. I’ll be posting plenty of pictures and feedback and will be posting periodically over the next few months some of the reasons why this is such a unique sailing adventure!!

We’re excited to announce next year's return of the New Smyrna Beach Skyfest air show, ready for takeoff April 5-7, 2024!

Featured performers including the AeroShell Aerobatic Team, three-time U.S. National Aerobatic Champion Patty Wagstaff, and Hot Streak II--a twin jet engine 57 Chevy Pickup capable of speeds over 350 mph--will bring this special event roaring back to New Smyrna Beach Municipal Airport after a seven-year hiatus. Other planned activities include helicopter rides, a carnival, "Inspiration Village" STEM education zone, petting zoo in support of local rescue centers, vendor booths, food, beer & wine, and more.

“This is an opportunity for our community to come together with their families, have fun, play, learn, eat, drink, and enjoy a great show,” said Airport Manager Arvin Weese. “Our vision is to inspire, motivate, and educate while providing safe, family-friendly entertainment.”
